I haven't had a chance to talk to the owners yet, but I had heard that they said they wish you would stay out of it and quit using them to fight your battle with the city and not let the problems you had with the city possibly hinder their efforts in selling their building. FOT, anonymous, antalameen, and worthystreator, you all liked this post. Do you believe that our City leaders are or would use their vindictive attitude to hinder these people from being able to sell their building just because I am the one talking about the overly restrictive zoning being wrong? Well lets see here: You said you didn't want to work with groups because you were afraid the city would be vindictive against them because of you. You say the city selectively targets your family. You "helped" a potential business try to get started and that failed. You weren't able to make any headway the the re-opening of the Majestic. Lets just say that anything you are talking about or involved with, seems to fail. Thank goodness I ma not the one trying to sell the building. I don't think I could handle your "help".

If you do talk to the owners, please do ask them if they believe your claim that the City is using thier vindictive attitude to stop them from being able to sell their building Its not my claim, it was hearsay that was told to me. It isn't even about you talking about it at a city council meeting. Its not saying that they are being vindictive towards them already. Its about the fear that you might continually talk about it like you do about anything else the city does. To take a play from your playbook, why should I do anything you want? I have been asking for a copy of the letter you got from the city. I will ask them, when I see the mayors letter posted here.

Lets just say that anything you are talking about or involved with, seems to fail. Thank goodness I ma not the one trying to sell the building. I don't think I could handle your "help". Yes, the City vindictively attacked my family. Yes, the Mayor gave a ridiculous, unjustified requirement that stopped a business. Yes, the new City Manager recently refused to provide the City's requirements to re-open the Majestic unless we first purchase the building. Those are clearly examples of our City's failures though, don't you think? That is the same City that filed an FTC complaint trying to stop a company wanting to invest in our community to lower the health care costs for employers to help repatriate the jobs lost overseas over the last 25 years. It's also the same City that zoned properties with commercial buildings as residential, and when called on it will now only allow the one in question to be a 7500 sqft convenience store or specialty shop with just a single variety of goods, hindering the sale of the prooerty. The City Council has already made their decision and the damage is done to hinder the sale, by so strictly limiting the use of the building. It is over with, right? Since the uses allowed for the building have already been determined, how is it that you think my talking about it being wrong can create yet another City failure to further hinder the sale any more than they already have? Are you really trying to say that just because it is insignificant me, who they don't like because of what I have to say, talking about my insignificant opinions of it being wrong, that would make our vindictive City strictly limit the uses of someone else's building to hinder the sale? Yes, I do think that they do things based on who the person is and whether they like what that person has to say, rather than what would be best for the community. It does seem like they do have a hard time working WITH people. The Times didn't find out about the meetings until late Friday afternoon, when it obtained the information as a result of a public records request. Wrighton has declined requests for interviews with Times reporter Giuliani about annexation in recent weeks but has said he will talk with other staff members. So they are going to keep the public from having the information on the annexation issue, because they don't like the reporter? How the hell petty are they? What happened, did this reporter question the BS that the City Manager spews, so he threw a fit, acting as if something terrible was being done to him when asked to stand behind what he has to say, like he did with me? Yes, it does seem that they have a hard time working WITH people, even when it is something for the community. Maybe our community will start to progress when they learn to start working WITH people.

I have been asking for a copy of the letter you got from the city. I will ask them, when I see the mayors letter posted here. Oh, from your comments it seemed as though the "vindictive attitude" part was your addition to the hearsay. So now your claim is that the "hearsay" is that the property owners believe that the City's vindictive attitude against me is what created the limited use that is hindering the sale of their property? It's about the fear that I might continually talk about it? Is that what the person told you that the property owners had said, or is that something that you've added to it? So what if I talk about it continually? Things like this that are wrong, are continually wrong, aren't they? All the City would have to do to not hear me continually talk about it being wrong is correct the situation, but they have already made their decision. It even took sending it back to P&Z a second time to get the restrictive C-2 compromise over their first choice of residential. Well dog, I certainly didn't expect that you would ever ask them to explain any reasoning behind your ridiculous hearsay claim that I am doing anything to hinder the sale of their property. I am confident that they are smart enough to see that it is the City of Streator so strictly limiting the uses of the building that are hindering the sale much, much more than any insignificant citizen talking about his insignificant opinions that it is wrong. You do give them credit for being at least that smart, don't you dog? You can find out about that letter any time that you want. Just like going to ask the owner's of the House of Furniture property whether they really believe that any insignificant citizen talking about his insignificant opinions that what the City has done is wrong could possibly hinder the sale of their property, you could also go ask our Mayor about his spot industrial zoning requirement that stopped an Aquaponics business from being here.

Do you have some other reason for thinking that my talking about it being wrong and asking our leaders for more reasonable zoning is actually hindering the sale, or do you just not like it that this situation highlights that the problems that I have been talking about for years are further validated as hurting our community? What I "liked" was the "quit using them to fight your battle with the city". Not that I have to explain myself to anyone. Even the City Council is human. If I were harassed as much as they are, I would turn you inside out too. That is, if that is true. Choose wisely before calling someone out and pick your battles. You don't have a clue what's on the other side. Isn't freedom of speech such a groovy thing!?!

I am only talking about what our City has done and what I thimk is right and wrong. I have not harassed the Council at all. I've simply talked about what they have done and what I want from my government, as I am perfectly entitled to do. I think that I do choose wisely when calling people out, like when I think they are wrong. I am calling out our City leaders for slashing the value of commercial real estate by being overly restrictive with their zoning and for not properly enforcing our laws around the bars to make homeowners want to limit business so severly to try to avoid being near the uncontrolled negative impacts.

Maybe because you go on and on and on and on about how bad Streator is, as a future business owner I would look Streator up and lo and behold this post pops up, basically the good you are trying to do is ruined by your mouth!

Maybe because you go on and on and on and on about how bad Streator is, as a future business owner I would look Streator up and lo and behold this post pops up, basically the good you are trying to do is ruined by your mouth! I don't believe thst I go on and on and on and on about Streator being so bad. I simply talk about the problems that I want corrected and talk about them continually because our City leaders don't address them and they continue to be problems. How is it that you think it is my mouth that ruins anything? Is slashing the value of commercial real estate by very strictly limiting the uses of properties acceptable as long as people can't read about my opinions that it is wrong? Do you think that the incresaing, excessive bar violence incidents are acceptable as long people don't hear me say that it is wrong? If we quietly allow these uncontrolled problems to continue, do you think it would be any less of a problem for people to be around those who pull their pants down and beat each other in the middle of our streets? Is turning business away, keeping a movie theatre closed, by refusing to give the requirements until the building is purchased and then refusing to stand behind what he says acceprable as long as nobody else knows that our City Manager spews such BS playing his political games? Is it acceptable for loved ones to continue being poisoned by heroin as long as noone talks about the dealers just being allowed to continue distributing the drug? In other words, do you really think that the problems are not the problems, but that people talking about wanting better for our community is the real problem? Really? To me, that type of thiking is just ridiculous, very short sighted, and a good part of why our community does not progress, but instead creates our continually declining population and property values.

Just to see if anyone had any valid reason to think that I am in anyway responsible for hindering the sale, but obviously not. And now, you are assuming. Yes, I am assuming because I strongly believe that if there were any valid reason for anyone to think that I have done anything to even come close to hindering the sale anywhere near as much as our City leaders so strictly limiting the use of the property to only be able to be a 7500 sqft convenience store or specialty shop with just a single variety of goods, it would be presented. It is obvious to me that the claim is just some more BS because some people don't want others to hear about the problems here. Yes, it is a shame that the value of real estate here is being slashed by strictly limiting the uses of properties because homeowners don't want to be around the uncontrolled "increasing" negative impacts of the bars, that our City leaders can't seem to come up with a solution for.

. Unless of course it was just him spewing some of our City's BS, again. with all the sh!t that comes out of your mouth, the smell has to be borderline unbearable to stand next to you. Gee oldtimer, you've claimed that the negative bar impacts don't hurt business. Now that our City has so strictly limited what businesses can be on Illinois Street after homeowners in the area stated that they didn't want to allow them so that they won't be around the negative bar impacts, doesn't it show that you are full of crap. Do you believe that our hospital closing is going to lower employers' health care costs to repatriate the jobs lost overseas over the last 25 years, or do you admit that our City Manager is full of crap too?

Bad news dog, the prospective tenant who was interested in buying the building already had some red flags, then he delayed the signing of the lease and some things that he said didn't seem to add up, so that deal seems to be dead. I signed a lease with another family and have pulled the ads. Doesn't sound like it is entirely bad news. At least you got another family in there to make use of the space and provide you with more income. No dog, I wasn't talking about it being bad news for me. Like I've said before, I'm fine with not walking away from my investment. The bad news was for you because you are not getting rid of me. Even offering it for sale for less than what I have in it and less than what some think it is worth, there were still no real buyers showing interest in the income property. I thought that possibly at least one of the arm chair business and real estate experts here who want to be rid of me would put their money where their mouth is, but no. It looks like you are stuck with having to keep reading my blog.

The bad news was for you because you are not getting rid of me. I was never trying to get rid of you. At one time, you were an a$$et to the community, and if you weren't so abrasive to so many here in the community, you could be an a$$et again. It would be a shame to lose someone who I feel has a desire to make a better community, I just think you chose a path that hurts the cause, more than helps it.
