The river Is becoming ruthlessly flooded once again and is going to continue to get worse.
Rt. 17 is closed as of Thursday under the train trestle heading East before 4 corners. This happened within a matter of hours.
Again as last Spring, the river is already doing damage and there are still several inches of snow to melt. As for the areas around the dam, if we don't have days without moisture, for sure we will have a repeat of last years flooding.
Please, please be mindful while driving. In many well traveled areas the standing water is freezing overnight then melting during the day. I fear we have some nasty repercussions of this past winter ahead of us.
Good news..... Robins are being spotted.

it will have to rain a lot to have a historic flood like last year. the snow that is on the ground was at most three inches.

In 1958 the river flooded the brand new Westgate plaze and tried to take out the old bridge St bridge. They built the levee after that happened.

I am surprised it is falling this soon. I thought for sure that the river would be up to those peoples doors down in the bottoms there by the Oakley ave bridge by today based on what I saw on friday .

Somebody needs to contact you, Dive! Per AM 1250 WSPL this am: Small ice jams along the Vermilion River are causing river levels to rise, but are expected to stay below flood stage. According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, the Vermilion is expected to crest later this morning and fall throughout the rest of the week.

I agree oldtimer. even with an ice jam we wouldn't have historic flood waters. I just came from the canoe launch and according to the ice rings on the trees the river has fallen 2 and half feet since its highest level.

there is a big difference in the vermillion and the Kankakee river. one reason is the flow and the amount of smaller spans the bridges have on the Kankakee which contribute to the ice jams. almost every year they have ice jams on the Kankakee river but especially when there is a prolonged cold snap.
