Take a look at google docs, basically the same as msoffice, but free to use. Should be able to create some type of slideshow type presentation on there to accommodate your needs. Ive always found just playing with it is the best way to learn it.

We recently added a video display at our box office. We use rise vision (free downloadable software).
We have a dedicated computer for it and use the HDMI ports though.

I was going to try to post a shot of the screen so you could see what it looks like, but it wouldn't capture everything.
We have one box that has the movies and show times constantly displayed. Then there is another that has a slide show of the prices, movie posters, and special promotions. Then we have a banner scrolling across the bottom.

Thanks for the advice guys. That sounds like exactly what I might be shooting for Kyle, Thank You Very Much. HDMI will work perfectly as well. I will check it out. I am just curious, do you think the active display has helped sales in the time you have had it as opposed to static message/menu boards? They had those 32" HD TV's for just $99 and I figured even if we used them for just 'video picture frames' it would not cost much more than printing a few posters. The active menu board with slide show and banner is really what we were shooting for though. I have seen some awesome displays in some of the bars over in the Kankakee area set up by the beer/liquor distributors. (occupational hazard calling on my customers) They have the regular TV broadcast in a slightly smaller box with just 2 edges for information featuring their product and any specials. 32 HDflat screen for $99.00 is a steal M@M AND THEY LOOK VERY NICE ALSO.

It sure is a lot easier to change the shows and times. I do hear people in line talk about our specials that pop up on it, so it has been good. We shut it off at night to save some of the screen (that runs about 12 hours a day), so now the people that pull up in the morning to check times, can't see them from the street anymore.
We have a 50", computer, cables, bracket, it was close to a grand. The owner of the place came to town one day and just decided that he wanted one.
We've had a lot of good comments on it. One of my employee's called it a diamond ring in a pig's nose; sadly, I can't disagree too much.
