Is it not job of the road commish to make sure roads are plowed, stop signs in place, and roads in good repai? If money is a factor, the road should be deemed unsafe and closed.

Yes it is, now WHO determines those conditions? If 99.999 percent of the traffic has no issue, does the .001 percent who goes off road make the decision to plow or not? We can make the same case if it is raining, someone might slip, so how about we purchase Jet dryers and dry the roads after a rain? You can scoff as that being silly, but as with the roads today, it is simply a case of determining if the results are worth the cost.

CS....since you are obviously not e resident of Newtown township, then why are you so vehemently down on someone that is not your concern? I am not a Newtown resident either and I say nothing concerning how well or not well he maintains the roads....the same as downstaters have no say on what happens in Chicago. You want better conditions in Newtown township, then move there and run a campaign for election to the road commissioner position. In the meantime, have a little cheese with your whine.

Could someone explain the various road crews and their responsibilities? If cityslicker is talking about a main throughfare from 18 to 17, wouldn't that fall under the counties responsibilities? I had always thought that the state was responsible for state highways, county for county roads, township for township roads and city for city roads.

otta, this township receives motor fuel taxes and the taxpayer should expect a safe passage in all ares traveled, time and weather permitting. The most traveled first should garner earlier maintenance. You have to have a better comeback, than the old move there and change rhetoric. You might share the same opinion,if you were party of the issue.

The earliest plowed roads are those ones whose importance is greatest, it is entirely possible that a lesser traveled road could be plowed before a greater traveled on if there is an extenuating circumstance, such as a school kid whose bus has to pick them up early.

You are right on the money Dog. I am not sure if the County level has crews or not though. I know they have road departments and make decisions about roads, but I am not sure if they have their own garage and maintenance equipment and crews. Perhaps a little like the Feds. being in charge of the Interstate but giving money to the State to take care of plowing, etc. Sure, the county has crews, I have seen crews at the township level too, such as Eagle and Reading. Maybe Cityslicker could elaborate which road he is talking about.

I wonder where. The Newtown commish is , this spring? There I are several potholes and blacktop that has buckled and the shoulders need upkeep on the main black tops in his domain. If he does not want to a earn his wages, resignation would be acceptable.
