As usual the Newtown township road commissioner, is neglecting his elected duties. The roads have not seen a snow plow or maintener. Who elects such a person to ensure our safe travel and well being?

The proper spelling "maintainer". a grader, with a snow plow attachment. A motorized snow moving device, unknown to certain commissioners,

The other thing to ask is how many miles of road is he responsible for? With the wind the way it was, do you think he might be trying to keep drifting roads open rather than making sure you are not inconvenienced?
This has been the worst year for drifting I can think of since the late 70's.........

Newtown township is 36 square miles. Do the math for going north and south, east and west on a 6 mile by 6 mile square. I have plowed snow for the state on numerous different routes, and it's no piece of cake when the wind is blowing, the ditches are blown full straight across and you have no idea where the road is.

Otto, if you or the commissioner, do not want he job, let someone who wants the job perform it. The route I refer to , is a main thoroughfare that connects route 17 to route 18. Amity township has a commis who is committed to his job, all four seasons. This other person, is lacking in performance and enough said.

"Streator streets have been looking pretty decent too for all the snow we have had and limited budgets."
Depends on which streets you're referring to...Now that the snow has melted off some, Illinois Street looks like the surface of the moon...It's now back to pot hole central throughout town... That being said, I totally understand that it was nearly impossible to keep up with the plowing...We got hammered this year, and the huge amounts dumped would slow any municipality down...

Where I lived in the 70s they were afraid to run their equipment in some areas... in fear of getting them stuck! lol They did purchase a couple of road blowers soon after.

After my dad retired, he went to work for the State of Indiana as a truck driver, the winter of 79/80 he was driving the dumps with the big V plow, he would hit the drifts at ramming speed and the Road Grader following him would hook a chain and yank him back to do it all over again. They cleared quite a few very impressive drifts that way, some were a half mile long and way over the tops of the Semis. My luck the Grader wouldn't be able to pull me back.....

Can someone wake the commish? He has has some main roads in Newtown township, that need snow moved off the driving area. Maybe the guy does not know his duties.

Did you call him? Ours has the phone number posted, and has responded every time I have called.
Our roads aren't perfect, but not nearly bad enough to waste the fuel to plow........ Remember the Taxpayer is pretty well burdened already, every gallon of diesel adds to that burden.

Why should a taxpayer have to call a person that is over 60 years old, to perform his elected duties? There were drifts on a north -south road that needed attention. This is a busy road and was hazardous. A few gallons of fuel could save a life.

If you feel that way, perhaps you should run for his office the next election cycle.
Or not drive like a nut when the roads are less than perfect.

OSS, not a resident of Newtown. Why do you suggest, a driving skill deficiency is to blame ? The. Post is about non - performance of an elected duty.

CS, a driving deficiency only if you do not manage to make it through safely. The post is you complaining about a specific area of road that you believe needs to have attention paid to it, you or I cannot say it has anything to do with the performance of a public official.
Like I said, come on out to OC township, some of our roads aren't good, but it is not worth the taxpayer dollars to run plows over those roads.
