I agree. I like Taco Bell. Taco Bell did not last the first time in Streator and I really don't see them lasting this time. There is the need to be more other types of jobs in this town in order to support what Streator already has. But it also does not help for jobs when you are able to shop on line and your needs can be delivered to your door. So as far as having a place to hire 50 employees will not happen because of the computers that are able to shop and also able to take jobs away from people doing hands on type situation jobs. But I also can see maybe having UPS deliver type service that could function in Streator due to people shopping online and having delivering service dropping products to your door.
You have to think bigger. Saying that a UPS type business could make it in just streator is crazy and shows you are thinking too all.
I think you are both right that if we had the jobs here then retail and Taco Bells would follow on their own and be sustained.
That is why it is such a shame that our City stopped a business (with a requirement that doesn't even follow our laws) that could have provided some jobs and attracted people to our downtown.
It is a different world today, third world countries competing in manufacturing and computers have changed a lot.
It is now an information age. Adding a fiber optic network could really make our community more attractive for a wide range of businesses that could employ people.
An intermodal could create jobs too. Do you have yours finished yet oldtimer? You are indeed thinking big.
