I had a JD 8 HP track snOwblower that I sold a couple of years ago. The thing did a great job, but it was getting old and hard to get parts for so I sold it at a garage sale for $50 bucks. I used to blow a 1/4 mile long driveway with it. Now I have a shovel and an attitude to save money by not buying a new one. lol

get his snow blower and let your wife use it while you have a glass of wine near the fire.

that small thing is better then a shovel and easier on the back. My neighbor got a 2 cycle snow blower. He didn't like it as I have seen him only use it once a few years ago. Now I am having buyer's reget on my snow blower. It has the rubber flap system, but just can not handle a lot of snow or worse....wet snow. I push it, clean it out, push , clean out....repeat. Wish I had invested in one of those Chicago "BIG BOY TWO HANDLED AUGER" snow blower.

Honestly, back when I was young, Mom bought a modest sized snow blower. It had an auger, but was single stage. That thing always seemed like it was such a hunk of junk. It didn't want to start when it was cold...duh....snow blower....cold...that's when we NEED it, so we took it inside to warm up. When the snow was heavy and wet it got clogged in the chute and was pretty useless. Again, that HEAVY stuff is the stuff that's harder to shovel. That brief experience years ago soured me on snow blowers, and never really revisited the concept. I am in my 50's now and know that snow shoveling is a heart attack waiting to happen...so I pretty much just don't. We will see how this 2 stroke rubber flappered wonder tool will work. So far, so good, but it was pretty light powdery stuff. I have a hunch when the snow is heavy, the way to make the small ones work is to hit it early and hit it often, don't let it accumulate to 8 inches and THEN go out and try to remove it all. The track drive blower I had was great on hills...up steep driveways with one hand! But like a said, over 20 and had seen better days. Picking up huge rocks in the driveway did a number on the impeller fan lol

Sounds like that little track drive Blower was a bit of a bulldozer beast of a machine. I bet that gravel does beat up any auger in time. The pins on the auger would sheer on the shaft when the auger got hung up on an ice ball or something. The fan / impeller that throws the snow gets the most damage...got bent from hitting large rocks and also dents the discharge chute when it pushes it through. lol Large rocks over 2 inches would go over a 100 feet when they went through . Very dangerous to have people around when you run a snowblower.

I have the same problem with my snow blower. it throws them rocks across the street. I quit doing people with the gravel driveways. I have never sheared a pin on this one yet. it just started snowing here super.
