I thought people might like a thread about something other than weather and spam. www.mywebtimes.com/news/local/streator-parking-ban-for-snow-could-come-soon/article_e23a8efd-6131-5102-b778-08e72de0ef22.htmlMayor Jimmie Lansford also mentioned limiting the kinds of vehicles allowed for clearing sidewalks on city streets, such as four-wheelers, to include in the ordinance. Yes, here I am again infringing on the rights of the newspaper by duplicating and sharing their content. I know that some feel it is a terrible thing, but I really don't think they mind and want their content shared(indicated by their sharing links) since it creates traffic/site revenue for them. Years ago I complained about letting just anyone with a plow on their truck bash into our curbs and push the snow into the streets and in front of other businesses, but couldn't get the city to do anything about it. Maybe now they finally are. Kudos to the Mayor.

I have driven through the downtown area after a big snowfall many times in the past. I don't see that many cars parked along main street. my guess it is the people living in the apartments above the stores. I was up town yesterday shopping and I found it hard to get from your car to the stores since there is 2 to 4 feet of packed snow along the curb. in the past the city use to remove the snow as soon as they could and would truck it to westgate to be dumped there.

what about all the abandoned properties in town maskedman? most reliable homeowners remove the snow on their property only to see no one doing removal on the empty lots or empty houses. since I use a tractor to remove snow I try to open the sidewalks of my neighbors so the mailman doesn't have to fight it. I do agree with your post concerning the type of equipment they use to do snow removal. a responsible person doesn't bury a neighbor doing their own sidewalks or store fronts.

I am lucky because I live in a neighborhood that have houses that are lived in and taken care of. there are a few homes where the people don't care and do just enough to get by before the code enforcer shows up. if my drain plugs up by my house I just call jude to come unplug it.

People living above stores are supposed to have off street parking (club members seem to be exempt though). We pay to rent four off street spots. I cut access openings through the snow bank on our block so customers can get to the sidewalk. It would be a shame to have someone wanting to open a business in one of our vacant buildings try to visit the chamber, but give up because they can't get over the snow bank. With hurdles like unjustified industrial zoning requirements, making them have to try jumping over snow banks too might be too much.

They will make people be licensed and insured snow removal professionals only. They will regulate it and hire someone to check credentials of anyone with a shovel. Perhaps require homeowners to get a permit to remove snow and fine them if they do not. That's a great catch 22. Win/Win for the city coffers and nail those evil homeowners in the wallet. Come on now, they aren't all that bad. Yes they might enact an ordinance like that, but that doesn't mean that they will enforce it on everyone. I'm sure that club members will be exempt; selective enforcement is popular with them.

Now, if they would make a parking ban, like most cities have.

What good is the chamber of commerce doing anyway? Seems like a lot of expense, for such meager results. Face it, the downtown business area, will never be the booming area, it once was. Pretty soon you will not be able to park downtown all together, or on certain sides of the street during winter, if the misleaders get their way.

I wish YOU would pick a side of the Fence and fall off the other. You remind Me of a Radio Announcer that USE TO work for WSPL and got FIRED.

I prefer, to take as such, in high regard, such a comparison. My advise is, "Do not eat the yellow snow".
