Ok so what bugs me is that someone I know was unhonorable discharged from the military for drug abuse and many years later still is. But decides to sport military ball caps and shirts. Maybe it's consider Fan wear to him I guess.

I thought they were called a dishonorable discharge. He apparently has issues and perhaps needs help. What war era did he serve in. How long was he in.

You can smoke 1 joint and be dishonorable discharged from the military for drug abuse. If the guy was actually in the military, then he is a vet and deserves to wear military things. He put in time, just broke their f**ked up rules. I know a guy that put in 20 yrs and was kicked out because of weed. He still put 20 yrs in as a soldier and will get my respect for that.

what is really a shame is that during the Vietnam conflict many of the veterans came back home with drug problems. most were discharged right after the war got over so none got the treatment they deserved. I see no reason why this guy cant wear military ball caps or whatever he desires. that is why we fought so we have freedoms. many people wear military Accessories that were not in the service.

I found this while searching the 5 levels of discharge:
" I started abusing drugs. I ended up failing 3 random drug tests. 1 for marijuana and 2 for cocaine. I'm currently going through the process of separation and will be out of the Army within 1-2 months. I am getting a General Discharge under Honorable Conditions"

Futhermore, I believe our nation has a responsiblity to do all they can do, yes and it includes MONEY, to provide the best care possible for all those who have served in the military. If we can't do that , and support those that never put on a uniform, but our TAX DOLLARS support individuals to pay for their SNAP program, or Farm Subsidies to BILLIONAIRS, we had better review our values. If you haven't walked in their boots count your blessing. The individuals I'm certain I owe as a TAXPAYER, is a VET! g

Bottom line is, He/ She went in the Military to defend our freedoms / constitution so we can live as a free nation. Does not matter if they have (1) (2) or how many years in the service. Their mind set was to defend this nation.

It Don't a veteran is a veteran he served. How many of you people talk crap about some people dishonorably discharged from military service. How many of you been shot at seen your friends killed been shot. Been there done that and got the t-shirt so find someone else to talk about instead of bashing veterans. funday40 sounds like you never served. Walk in their boots before running off at the mouth. Semper FI !

Don't mean to be mean, but being in the military doesn't automatically give you the right to do drugs or steal or other illegal things. Some military jobs are as good or better than civilian ones. Being in a combat area definitely wears on them and I understand certain discretionary things brought on by battle weariness or post traumatic stress syndrome.

during Vietnam and being in a combat area drug use was often overlooked by military leaders because it was an escape from the harsh reality of death. when the military personal shipped back to the states they were addicts and drug use was frowned upon. they came back heroes and were discharged from the service because they had problems both mentally and physically.
