We dodged a bullet this time...
I dont know if it was the wind making the sound or what but when I heard that rumbling thunder sound the pucker factor went pretty high....thought we were getting ready to be hit..
I cant wait to see the map where this thing traveled and for how long...

I could hear that sound too, it sounded like thunder but it wasn't the noise would change, sounded like a rumble but then sounded like it hit something like house or building, the rumbling never stop, it only change sound, it was weird. i stood on my front porch listening to it, it kept getting closer,1o minutes later it still was making that rumble non stop.by then it was behind my house. the rumbling still never stopped. just kept moving farther away.

After coming out of the basement, to assess the damage, that sound was like a jet going over. Imbedded thunderstorms? no clue. But , it was eerie. Gal pal found a Chicago City Marathon vest in her yard, as well, as mail from Washington. Neighbors have hail damage, and I have one broken window. We got lucky. Some, I know, not so much.

so was that constant thundering sound the tornado approaching and passing by Streator? I thought wow that's a lot of lighting up in the clouds but didn't see any flashes.

It def. went over, I have siding damage from debris hitting my house, probably was just south of Streator traveling ENE to pelt my place like it did, that would also put it pretty well on path to hit Cole City like it did.

This tornado was worse than the one that hit Streator a few years ago.

I had a small amount of dime size hail. This morning, I found some shingle and insulation debris in the yard. Not a lot, but it was there.

This tornado was a half mile wide.....if it touched down, Streator would of been gone (phew) very close call.
