why dont they sell the property 'as is' instead of tearing it down? Probably because the property includes the newest rectory in town. Modern-day clergy don't want to live next to a church. Where's Bishop Ace these days? Senate Pool Room - Ottawa

I assume the stained glass windows will be salvaged as well as the pews. I believe a poor country will like all the belongings. Haiti or another country will more than likely received everything to set up a church.
The rectory is very close. Extreme caution will be needed during demolition.
When St. Stephens School was razed, the debris was left in the basement. Brick and concrete can be used as fill while the wood from the roof will have to be landfilled.

Why not just tear down the hall and rectory too? Shouldn't the pastor live next to the church where services are regularly held? Gotta love the logic here..."I get to keep my rectory because it's the newest one in town, but that bad old church has to come down."

Lest we forget, the nearly new Gym is at yet ANOTHER location. Good planning going on here. St. Stephens Gym can't be super-old, is it? Maybe built in the 70's? 1977 on the cornerstone, I believe. That place is falling apart. The parish has more important things to spend money on, such as a new playground and improvements at the Immaculate Conception property (except to the church, obviously).

I explained to Mom that we have a new Rectory and Parish Hall in one location. A new addition to the only Catholic school in another location. And the only Catholic church in yet a third location.

And all(except the Church itself) within the last 10 years. That's some grand planning going on there. The whole thing seems to have been designed to pi$$ off as many people as possible. When I go to St. Stephen's, I'm amazed that all Streator parishioners can fit into one church. Hundreds must've quit because of the consolidation.

I am not Catholic, but don't they have about 5 or 6 different masses? That would accommodate a lot of people. They do now. Not too long ago one church would have 4 weekend masses. Of course the Catholic Church has a very utilitarian outlook when it comes to parish viability. Protestant congregations keep going until there are 10-20 people in the pews on a Sunday. A Catholic church with 400 weekend mass-goers isn't safe from closing.
