Don't you just love religions!
I think it's funny how the letter reads:
"After serious reflection, consultation and prayer, the Trustees and I have formally petitioned Bishop Jenky to return Immaculate Concepcion Church to profane use so that it may be razed. He has accepted our petition..."
What a bunch of bull$hit. Do people really believe that?
Hell, why not take all the catholic churches down in town and leave the one that is used? They could probably get a deal if they do it that way? Why beat around the bush and wait for "reflection, consultation and prayer", just level those bad boys!

A large building like that has no practical use. The church would be hard to hard to heat and cool, has not a good location, and probably will not include any parking. Take a picture and sell the re-prints.

The author of the decree writes in one paragraph that the parish doesn't have enough money for repairs. In the next paragraph the writer gives the impression that the parish actually does have enough money for repairs but wants to use the money for "evangelization" instead. What does "evangelization" entail? I've seen nothing but de-evangelization in Streator. haha, for the love of God, the next-door rectory is good enough for the pastor to live in. But he can't be bothered to have services in a church five feet away. What a farce.

Refrain: I am the church! You are the church! We are the church together! All who follow Jesus, all around the world! Yes, we're the church together!
1. The church is not a building; the church is not a steeple; the church is not a resting place; the church is a people.
I just don't see the point of keeping buildings when there are not enough people and financial support to use them. The church isn't a building, it's the people in them.

I agree that the church is not needed. It's just how they said they came to the determination that they were going to tear it down! "Reflection, consultation and prayer"... oh brother!

why dont they sell the property 'as is' instead of tearing it down? Probably because the property includes the newest rectory in town. Modern-day clergy don't want to live next to a church. Where's Bishop Ace these days?

why dont they sell the property 'as is' instead of tearing it down? Who would be in the market to buy a huge church in Streator? That is why they are tearing it down.
