I hope they do not use the gaudy mismatched decorations, from last year. They look like a hodgepodge of second hand junk , from the second hand stores. Ottawa has the nicest display, by far. If someone is going to do the decorating, do it right or not at all. Actually you just paid the volunteers a complement to their Christmas decorating techniques. "Gaudy" is actually Gaudí. As in Antoni Gaudí. He was a founding figure of Catalan Modernism, and a highly skilled craftsman in ceramics, stained glass, wrought ironwork forging and carpentry. He would incorporate these skills into his architecture. Most of which can be found in Barcelona. A lot of his work is admired by architects and others alike. So the term Gaudí is in reference to him and his elaborate work.

A lot of gaudy, does not make the park better. Good taste and color co-ordination go a long way. Leave it to professional decorators and people who are not color blind. I guess one person's gaudy is another person's beautiful!

That definition that I see see, is showy in a tasteless way. That seems to fit the display, to a tee. If people want to waste their time , so be it. Keep an eye out for streator's finest, the vandals. The security lights add a touch of class, too.

My brother makes it in from California EVERY year and always enjoys seeing the lights in the park. He almost always comments what a great job they are doing. Ottawa's lights are always nice too. Perhaps that old rivalry still burns a little bit spurring both cities to keep decorating the public parks nicely. Thanks guys and girls, some of us deeply appreciate your efforts. It makes me smile....here it is at 5 am and couldn't sleep and I can't help but think of Chevy Chase and 'Christmas Vacation'....oohhh...mmmyyyyy...makes me smile.....250 strands of lights......25,000 bulbs And a fried cat behind the chair!
