I saw an ad on webtimes that Michael's Recycling is now offering local trash pickup. How would that work since the city charges us on the sewer bill?

i always thought that within city limits we have no choice but what the city has contracted with.

i always thought that within city limits we have no choice but what the city has contracted with. This is the case. I don't think they could stop you from contracting, but you would then be paying for 2 pickups rather than the city obligated 1.

the city negotiates with waste management to supply garbage pickup. like sniper said you would still have to pay to the city for garbage removal even if you contracted Michael's recycling.
