Wasn't here, we did have a serious proposal to put an incinerator in, that was shot down by the community. Later John Deere did store tractors here, and I was trying to work with a company that would have used the building to put in a Chinese car company ( Gheely ), but they failed crash, and never managed to get stateside approval.

I worked for an insurance company that insured Thatchers, then Diamond and then Deere rented it for 5 years and I was involved.
I remember a company that looked at the plant but it was not an automobile or cycle company.

If I recall correctly the car they were proposing to build was either based on a design of Jim Bedes' or was his actual Litestar, which was a commuter design and a spin off of his BD-5 aircraft. They were proposing to utilize the empty Anthony plant to build it. Bede's aircraft design gained fame when the jet version was used in a James Bond movie. Here is some more info and pics of his designs: www.autocycles.org/compare.html

I was a huge Bede fan, I wanted in the worst way to fly one of his early designs ( BD4 ) back when I was learning to fly. Dad sold our plane before I soloed, and never got to finish. I never knew Bede did any work on a land based vehicle, way cool.
