Anyone see that on the news that this is one of the proposals the Chicago mayor is looking at imposing as a new law? Got to be the dumbest thing I ever heard of to generate tax revenue. Hope Streator is wiser and smarter than this dumbass for a Chicago mayor, ,not to even suggest this kind of dumb law for our city.

I believe this stamp/license came from motorist fed up with the idea of having to pay higher road taxes...
The city of Chicago have bike lanes and amenities for bicycle riders and the bike riders do no have to pay for any of it...it comes from road taxes..

There is zero logic in everything done in Chicago... Case in point, the Mayor wants to increase the tax on cigarettes, raising them to over $11.00 per pack...His reason - folks are traveling to other states to buy them... First, wasn't the so called "sin-tax" designed to deter people from such vices?...What's he gonna do if they all quit smoking?... Second, isn't the extra revenue generated to "cover medical costs of uninsured smokers" and other health related issues?...Is this now a "double-tax" due to Obamacare?... Third, if folks are going to other states to buy them now, how on earth would this improve anything?... Like I said, zero logic...

That makes sense to me then to have this tax in Chicago. I bet tons of money is used to make bike lanes etc. Only fair that they share in the cost too.

Well ... now that you gave them the idea rocket .... I did not give them ideas, they too watch the news and research other cities of what they do to generate revenue. Remember when spd was handing out tickets to people including kids for riding their bicycles after dark without a headlight? People and especially parents were outraged by this ,and notice spd stopped giving out tickets? Same thing will happen if the city imposes bicycle registration and license plates. They will be flooded with complaints and causing people to be outraged by imposing such law for a city this size.

. Remember when spd was handing out tickets to people including kids for riding their bicycles after dark without a headlight? . That brings up something I saw a couple of weeks ago on a Friday night after dark. I am driving down Oakley and I see this shadow in the other lane in front of oncoming traffic. There is a kid on a bike riding in the middle of the other lane. The only illumination he had was the glow of his cell phone in his face as he was texting. He had dark clothes and could have easily have been run over. That is why we sometimes need stupid laws to protect stupid people from themselves, not to generate revenue.

I heard on the scanner the other night when a person on a bicycle was pulled over by the Streator police for not having a headlight. The person got by on a verbal warning. It looks stupid but if the bicycle got in an accident, it would be the other persons fault.
