Wow.....so sad to see what it once was and what it is today. I love the feature of being able to scroll over to see the then and now. Thanks for sharing!
Last week or so I saw a television program of things they are doing to try to bring Detroit back. I was busy doing something else at the time and only half listening but it sounded like they may be on the right track. It may have been a Sixty Minutes program?

Dad used to work at Packard in Detroit; growing up we were one of two families in the neighborhood driving Packards

The P-51 Mustang that won the Air War in Europe by Providing Long Range Bomber Escort for our B-24'2 B-17's and B-29's all over the world. What did all of them have in COMMON a Packard Built Rolls Royce Designed Merlin V-12 Engine. In 1940 England knowing they could not build Enough of the Merlin's for the war sent the Designs and 1 Complete Engine to Detroit to Packard and said We NEED AS MANY AS POSSIBLE. Packard Improved the Design with Better Fuel Consumption and more HP. The Best Rolls Royce Built Merlin was around 1500 HP. Packard was getting 1800 normal to 2000 WEP out of theirs. Even the British used them on the Lancaster Bombers that bombed Germany into the Stone age. It took the Packard Built Merlin's to get the Grand Slam bombs into the air.
The Grand Slam was a 22Klb Bomb that was dropped from the Lancaster.
