What a wonderful story.
Rick was a good Man.
If His Daughter is like Him then She is going to go far in Life.
TEENS: I remind you of my dad? Thanks

Recently, after cheering at a Streator Bulldogs varsity football game, I ran into an old family friend. After talking for quite some time, I was told I reminded her of my father, Rick Wargo, and he would be extremely proud of me if he were here.
After a while I said thank you, my goodbyes, and I was on my way. Leaving the stadium, I couldn't help but tear up. At first, they were tears of frustration because my senior year has started off emotionally rocky by not being able to share it with my dad. Then, they turned into tears of joy.
My dad was a great man who helped the people in the town of Streator in any way he possibly could. He was always a busy man and did whatever he could. Free time may just have been a foreign phrase to him.
I remember going to Ace Hardware, Ray's Paint Shop or basically almost anywhere in town, and someone always would stop and have a conversation with my dad. There were so many people I met growing up in this amazing small town of Streator. Thinking back on it now, it's just amazing how many people showed up to my dad's wake. The line was out the door at the funeral home. People came from as far as Colorado and Washington. To think my dad had some kind of positive influence on all these people is just surreal.
To be told you remind someone of your parent is a great feeling. I realized if I were able to remind her of my father just by my actions and the way I speak, then I have many reasons to be proud of myself. I also started to realize that even my mom, Rosie Wargo, has told me several times I'm my father's daughter. She's told me I act, speak and have the same humor as my dad did.
Of course, to me I feel as if I am just being me, my own person. Looking back, I realize being around my father 24/7 at the garden centers and running around town, that I may have picked up a few, well, many different things from him without realizing it.
Growing up a child learns from their surroundings, parents being one. So, of course, a child does some of the same things his or her parents do every day. This is just how we learn. Everyone in this world is in some way like their parents.
Although we may not like being told we resemble our parents, in all honesty it's a great thing. Being told I'm like my father makes me feel as if I am resembling him in the same way he was honest, respectful and kind. I'm glad I am able to remind people of my dad in this positive manner.
So my fellow peers at Streator Township High School, I know there are many of you who are told you are like your parents. Be proud, you must be doing a great job and building a positive reputation in our great community of Streator. Knowing I am doing this is making my senior year a little easier. I may not have my dad here physically, but I know he will always be a part of who I am in everything I do. I wouldn't have it any other way.
