Couldnt have said it better, & if it wasnt for you I dont think our theatre would be as grand as it is today That theatre would have been long gone had it not been for my father and his best friend Butch Lux helping him ..fight the City to save it back in the '60's. Yes alas it was slated for demolition and you guessed it...yet another parking lot downtown. When my dad bought it, it had been sabotaged big time to the tune of them even pouring concrete down the toilets. The whole place was in pretty bad shambles, but my dad had a dream to save it, and he did...single handed. Now...as far as the Silver Fox........... congrats to all involved here to bring that building back to life. LOVE.......the huge spiders crawling all over the building too as well, lol. M Which theatre did your father fix up, the Majestic?

I liked the spiders. We went to drop off some letters at the P.O. and Mom finally got to see Kyle's paint job. She really liked it. Then we drove by the pocket park and boy their walls look terrible.

I thought the old owners sold out, because of the high heating and cooling bills. Who wants to park bllocks away and walk past abandoned buildings, risk being mugged and p*ssed on? The bandshell is not a venue worth returning , to Drunkville, for. There is a place on north side of town, that has it all.

The bandshell is not a venue worth returning , to Drunkville, for. There is a place on north side of town, that has it all. I don't care why the old owners sold it. I'm glad it's in the hands of people who are going to take care of it. Walk past abandoned buildings, risk being mugged and p!sssed on? What town are you talking about? That's any town in the good old United States of America! I work in downtown Chicago, the death capital of America! While it has that reputation now, I still walk to work and people still go about their business and have fun and go to movies and bring their kids here, etc. The band shell and The Silver Fox can be part of an overall transition of the downtown area. Every little piece helps! The Silver Fox is another fresh step in the right direction for downtown Streator.

Since you weren't smart enough to figure out the word game, let me explain, I was agreeing with you. If you are trying to pick a fight again so that you can start your insults and name calling, make unfounded claims, disappear, and then go back later and delete your posts, why not just head back to the thread that you started specifically for that, instead of doing it here? How come you are allowed to jab and not others? That doesn't sound like a fair fight to me. You can throw punches but your opponent can't?

He certainly can and has.
I was just saying if he wants to pick a fight, let's take it to the another thread, like the one that he started for that purpose.
The Silver Fox is a positive for our community.

Which theatre did your father fix up, the Majestic? Yes, the Majestic............ There is so much history with the Majestic. I just wish more people would support it in Streator. I have a friend who tells me what the ticket sales are for the Majestic and, unfortunately, it's not where it should be. It's reasonably priced. I'll tell you what, I'll take that grand movie theatre over those cookie cutter places they put up now. Nothing beats sitting in the balcony and watching a movie!

Yep, the grand Majestic is so appropriately named.....and our only theatre now standing. Everyone should patronize it, before it also ends up in a thread like your "Best Memory of Streator" ..... M

M I wish they would do more concerts and plays there. While I think Engle Lane is awesome, it's too bad they wouldn't have worked out an agreement to use the Majestic! The school districts should use the theatre for plays that the kids perform. As a community, we need to keep it foremost in our mind to put things downtown whenever we can! The Majestic Theatre is under utilized!

Very good points......... ^^^ contact Katy and run those ideas past her! Tim did try to do concerts with having Head East there, now that one was great! I got the whole band to autograph an old 8 track tape of theirs. They asked me what I intended on doing with it, "selling it on eBay?"................lol. I didn't particularly care for Janis Joplin's band though...he had the connections to do alot more concerts. Tim does still OWN the Majestic, and always did after buying it from Kerosota's. M

That building belongs to our new councilman doesn't it? Bill Phelan and his wife were doing the renovations.

I'm sure the construction issues were there but 300+ people stomping around on the floor? I'm guessing that had a lot to do with it
