Now that you estaablished it to be a basketball player, of all that came out of San Diego, the one that sticks out in my mind that really, really impressed me, the one that did so many things in college, is Bill Walton. Had they had the ability when he played to dunk he would have been unstoppable. As well as Alcindor, that no dunk rule made them improve their shots. I think of Jabbar shooting that hook shot from the corner. Hardest place to shoot from looking at the basket, yet he did it so well with the sky-hook from 15 feet. That's like shooting a hook from the free throw line, nobody does that, yet he could. Back to Walton, had he not gotten bigger in the pros which I believe had some to do with his bad feet, nobody could have touched him. He was so agile. And what a lot of people didn't know about him, he stuttered his way thru college. He overcame that, became a decent announcer, and never shuts up, but he is really well versed. Long paragraph, for a short answer...Walton. Hope I got it right or I wasted my time.

Yes Willy. It was Bill Walton. His physical condition was almost like that of Koufax. He had terrible knee problems going back to HS. He would sit in a tub in the trainers ofc before the games and if UCLA was way ahead, he would be allowed to go into the locker room early and start icing down those knees. He found a way to lose that really bad stutter and became an announcer at 29 or 30 yrs old. UCLA hired several former college big men to work w/ Alcindor and they revised that great hook of his that was well.... unstoppable. One of the reason's hey lost to Elvin Hayes in the Astrodome, was that Lew had an eye injury and was still half blind and out of shape from being in the hospital. Still "The Game of the Century" to me. All these basketball questions are because I just finished a great book called "Wooden: A Coach’s Life,” by Seth Davis

Good book Dave. I believe that game in the Astrodome was the largest crowd ever for a college basketball game. Think it was in late January or February 1968. I couldn't wait for that game. Big E had an incredible game and they still only one by a couple. Less than a month later UCLA won by close to 40 pts. They both had pretty good careers. I think Seth Evans is a very bright guy.

George "Jodie" Harrison. I've been giving scholarships away in his honor for years. Was one heck of a good guy and good friend. If you check I believe he got drafted in baseball also. What amazed me about Jodie, he wasn't the best shot or best rebounder, but when you needed either he could do it. When he was at Alabama he set a freshman scoring record down there and for the most pts. scored in a game. He got to Illinois they wanted him to run the team and that he did. He was killed May 28, 1991, a horrible day for me when I found out.

This one will be really hard to get I'm guessing.
Who scored the first touchdown in Streator Youth Football? What was the play and how many yards?
I'll give a couple days for an answer.

I'll go with David Wade on a 78 yard kickoff return. Just a guess.

It would have been 1970, my 5th grade year. The field for that age group back then was 60 yds long and narrowed by about 20yds.

While all are on the football question, here's one to test you. Who's the 1st male basketball player to have won a state championship, a college championship, a gold medal in the olympics and be on an NBA championship team?

cmon, you don't know how close you are. But please don't answer George Wilson out of Cincy. That was such a wise guess, how do you know so much about sports?
