Where Mazerowski hit his HR? Yup. The ball went over this wall and over Yogi's head. Pirates won the WS with Bad Bill's homer. I was 10 yrs old and a big Yankee fan. It broke my heart and Mickey's too.

Bill Veeck. I think I read a story once about how much he paid for the White Sox that said after all the years he drew a salary from his team, in the end it didn't cost him anything to purchase the club.

Bill Veeck was the most amazing owner in MLB. IMHO. I hope he is in the HOF.

He went on to own St Paul Saints. His son Mike and Bill Murray are now pt time owners. But go to Wikipedia and check out the still amazing promotions they do. They played a game w/o umps. Used a judge in a robe BEHIND the pitcher to call balls and strikes. There were two groups of little leaguers to make the calls at first and third! Also check out the number of big time players that went through the Saints. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Paul_Saints

I think Michael Veeck has an interest in several Minor League teams including the one in Bloomington. I would love to see him get a chance to run/own a Major League club. The other owners hated Bill at the time. He was unconventional and they hated him for it. Maybe he got the best of them on too many trades. Did you ever read his autobiography Dave? 'Veeck As In Wreck' It's pretty old now, citing a lot of old names from Baseball that don't mean much to a lot of people. I enjoyed it though. Thanks MM. I'll see if I can get that book on kindle

Hey Dave, I watched "42" last night and that sure was a good movie. You seen it yet? He sure had to have been a strong man to put up with everything. I can't imagine how people got away with all that stuff. Really made me think.

USA They gave us ironclads & thus made every wooden hulled ship obsolete. Fulton was able to invent the Steam boat.

The story of the poor lil Hunley is sad indeed. I think they went through three of four crews getting drowned before they quit. It was located and raised again a few years ago. And YES for ONE day the CSA navy was ahead of every ship at sea. Then the Monitor showed up from the north.

Wrigley Field What was it's original name? What was the name of the first team to play there? What league did this team play in?
