I was going to try the "Main Street Bar Walk". LOL, We used to do it every Fri. and Sat. night........ only problem was, after Risleys, Tekes, and LaVilla, we couldn't walk any further........ Of course we didn't limit ourselves to just one beer at each place, and Angel used to like to feed us Alabama Slammers........ Lordy am I glad I grew up.

Back in the day, you didn't have to leave the block. Tekes was between Arthur's Lounge, and the one that was downstairs...I can't think of the name right now. Then Calis west, squints across the street. Crossing the street was eagles and grammas. That's without leaving the Bloomington st area. People might think we have a lot of bars, but we had many more just 2 decades ago.

And, if you just wanted to cruise, there was the drive through at Blue Room and at Oakley Inn.

And before Kyle comes and accuses me of condoning drinking n driving...let me say, we didn't have the same strict laws and had to learn by loosing classmates to this bad habit. My kids were subjected to the...'i know all the excuses' parenting. Been there, done that. I know from the look in your eye, what you're planning, parenting!

Squints, Grammas, and the bar in the basement of the hotel where Red Tuck had a standing engagement was a long 3 closer to 4 decades ago. Don't forget the White Chapel, it was within staggering walking distance of the others. Am I getting old, I can remember a stripper in Grammas wearing a Tarzan getup and Harleys lining both sides of the streets in the summer in front of Squints on Friday nights. And when the bars in town closed for the night you always had Matt n Eddies between Grand Ridge and Streator on 23, they were open til 4.

I believe that there were 56 bars listed in the phone book, under streator. This is a community that is used to having a plethora of taverns. To an outsider, it apparently takes a long while to acclimate.

My tavern of choice was my Dad's also. Sometimes we would have a coupla brews together or I would stop by on the way home from a date for a beer and hot beef sandwich. PHIL OLIVER'S TAVERN. It was right in front of Ligore's. Phil was a great guy.
