The board approved approved another $943,000 deficit budget. When are they going to live within school's means. ? They are going to have to cut sports and other non-academic ventures. Only one member seemed to grasp the situation , the way, I read the article. Run the school like a business and quit bowing to the unions . They hand pay increases out and have no funds to cover the generousity. I look for some back door tax increase, to be in the taxpayer' s future. Taxes Up, salaries Up, test scores down or stagnant.

It is just they way they justify tax increases....they want you to feel it and it to be a very visible and hurtful cut. That way the people squawk about it and submit themselves to more taxes. There are always other places to make cuts, but if no one feels the cuts, then there can be no justification to increased taxes.

Why is the only solution they come up with to cut extra-curiculars? Yeah, it's clear they don't have enough money to spend. So spend less. But don't cut what the kids actually NEED. How about milking a couple of more years out of the text books, not replacing school desks, maybe cut some salaries...SOMETHING! It makes me want to PUKE. Look around, I know all the schools are facing some of the same problems as far as the lack of state funding, mandates, etc. WHY is SHS in so much more trouble than their neighbor to the South? Why is WHS more solvent? Could it be the Board doesn't spend so lavishly? Come on people! I really have no right to say. It isn't my district. I don't vote there. But come on! Get with it. The next time the Teacher's want a raise, tell them no, we don't have it. The next time some slick talking light bulb salesman tries to sell you the latest whiz bang light bulbs, tell them we already have some. Please, Please be responsible stewards. I think Woodland has got its share of tax increases over the years also... No extracurricular activities would be a downfall..But in reality what should the school systems number one priority be,,Education or Basketball?etc......

The whole Livingston Co. School system will benefit from a countywide sales tax that was enacted a few months ago. We should thank the state for pawning funding off to the local level in a form of taxation. That way they can say". They did not raise taxes." Also, Woodland teachers and administration are compensate very well. Most not making $90,000 ++++ like. Streator, but. Close.

Woodland also has a School Board that WILL tell the Teachers Union NO when it comes to how much they get paid. Anyone remember a couple years ago when it came out that the Teachers where overpaid. The School Board MADE THE TEACHERS REPAY the Overpayments before they would give them a NEW CONTRACT. SHS and SGS I am thinking would have rolled over and gone HERE RAPE US SOMEMORE. Why is Woodland better with the books could it be there is only 2 Admins in the whole District one Superintendent and one Principal and only 5 Secretaries for the whole shooting match. Compare that to what SHS and SGS has and you can see where the Fat could be trimmed. Sorry but IIRC SHS has what 6 PAID admins for the district the Super his Assistant the AD a Dean a Principal and an Assistant Principal. Getting rid of 2 of them is over 200K of the Deficit right there.

Back then the pay was probably good but not exorbitant. Job covered this once, about how administrators pay started to skyrocket.

Weren't the SHS Teachers picketing last year because the Admin. got raises, while they didn't?...How many at SHS hold multiple full-time positions?...How many of those positions could be eliminated without affecting ALL of the students, not just those who play sports/band etc...?
Seems to me that most of the $$$ is going to a limited few, while the others get the blame...
