What about the owner of the Majestic - how much did he put in? How much of his money did you lose?
What have you done since the Majestic - you go back years to the Majestic - are you saying you have done nothing since then?
Just waiting for more people to invest in you - is that it?

The owner of the Majestic gained greatly from my investment there.
What he has put into it has nothing to do with me; he spent his money as he saw fit.
I have done a lot since the Majestic, I only used it as an example because the hard work that I did there is so visible to the whole community.
Among many other things, I've used scaffold that was given to me to paint some ceilings and change a screen at the Roxy.
That scaffold was given to me by a cousin of the Majestic's owner.
His family owns several apartment buildings in town.
He hangs out at a bar across the street from me.
He was one of the first people to notice my chickens.
He personally knows the tenant that was in my building.
HMMMMM, those are some of the same things you have been talking about.
Do you worry about how hard everyone in town works?

Must be another lie - look back at your posts - you said I wonder who noticed my chickens - must be someone from the bar - maybe your so called friend?

Yes, the cousin of the Majestic's owner was at the bar and one of the first people to notice my chickens as I was putting them in the coop, the first person I saw make any comment about them.
Then you were on here the next day with a user name saynotokyle, talking about them.
He was the one that came to me first to tell me about the "huge deposit" from the "big money people from Pennsylvania", as the reason they wanted me to leave the Majestic.
Getting that huge deposit from those big money people after all the money and hard work I put in to bringing it up to that condition, should have taken care of any of his losses.
Remember, he started with a boarded up building that was in no condition to be a first run movie theatre.

I love the Majestic. It is great having a movie theatre in town. The community needs to support it. Now back to the topic. I can only speak for myself , but the library got a new desk and lights but it still has very few new books. Very, very, few. Before everyone starts yelling at me. If you would like a list of what they do not have I can list it. Actually it would be easier to list what they do have because that would amount to around 15 new books. Looks like they spent so much on lights and a desk they forgot what a library should have. BOOKS!

The Majestic may not always have the movies I want to see, and the Streator Library may not always have the books I want to read. Perhaps others citizens of Streator or surrounding communities may continue to enjoy both I hope so. Please join me in supporting both. g

I think before you start running to find quotes, you should actually read what was written. I never mentioned the cost of the desk. It is very nice. My point was that they need to put as much effort in to providing new books as they do the renovations. A library should have new releases by popular authors and they do not. How about using some of the donated money to buy books? Now that is an amazing concept isn't it?

I would also like to point out Greek God that yes the community should enjoy both the library and the movie theatre. However, there is a big difference between them. The public library should have at least 90% of new releases it is the PUBLIC LIBRARY. It is funded by our taxes.

Kilma, I too hope that people continue to support both places.
The lack of new releases were complaints of multiple posters before.
Have you tried requesting specific titles? I am curious as to how long it takes to get them in.
Could you provide just a few titles that you would expect them to have on hand?
It seems to me that having many popular new releases available on the shelves would be a service we should be able to expect.
Thank you to the Endres Family for the generous, lasting contributions.

A quick check of Wikipedia reveals this: In descending order of number of new titles per year, as of the latest year available, sometimes "new titles and editions": 1. United States (2010) 328,259 (new titles and editions) With all those releases I would find it hard for ANY library to stock more than just a small percentage of the new releases. Just stocking 10% of them would mean about 33,000 new books to pay for and then have room to put them on the shelves. With more and more things going digital, print is a dying media.

I am aware that there are a huge number of books released each year, that is why I used the word popular in front of new releases. That is also why I asked for an example list. Last time the subject came up, it was said that many best sellers were not available.

Good to know Sassy. I wonder how many are available on our library shelves. Do you know how long it takes to get them once ordered? Can you order online or by phone? It is free for users isn't it? It seems like a good service, even without knowing those details.
I imagine it is probably hard to try to decide on which titles to buy for many others, but I would expect our library to have on hand many popular new releases.

The library receives a grant every year to purchase new books. Of course they cannot order 323,000 new releases.......but they should have at least the very popular authors. If you go on the prairie cat website you can see that most of the other libraries in Illinois have these books. The problem with borrowing them from another library........through the Streator library is the fact that when it is a brand new book, written by a popular author is..........that most libraries will not lend out the new books until after 90 days. They make their own patrons the priority. Which is how it should be..........but there is no reason the streator library should not have the popular authors and books.

Anytime I've asked about a title they dont have, theyve immediately offered to get it for me, through the above mentioned. Ive never taken advantage. I've never left the library empty handed. But, I've always been willing to wait. Ive built my own hardcover library out of the bookstores bargain bin.
It would be awesome to have all the bestsellers at release. Has anyone thought of donating one once in awhile?
