They are such a PITA and can be very destructive..
Had an old timer tell me to hang bars of Irish Spring in my garden to keep ground hogs and other animals out...probably wouldn't hurt to throw a bar under the deck...

I was told the same thing but havent gathered the strength to clean and cook them up... Since they are vegetarians it should be better eating than some of the other wild "game"

One was in a friends yard a few yrs. back & he caught it, then another friend cut it up, breaded it & added breaded brats to a huge cooker (He also added some Crown Royal) then 2 of us gals added potatoes, peppers n carrots to it. WE left it on slow cook, went skeet shooting for the day, came back & ate & it was delish! p.s. It really DID taste like chicken!

I have to ask.....in this super sanitized world we live in.....does eating wild game pose any kind of potential health risk at all? I mean if the animal doesn't show any signs of Rabies or anything. I think I saw a post here some time ago that there were a number of rabid Coons here in town. I would think after safe food handling practices/butchering and the meat cooked to safe temps everything would be all right...there are certain parts of an animal I stay away from...brains..livers...etc Dont know if I would risk eating any animal if they were acting abnormal...

I can see the Times headlines now.' Local knawed by killer groundhog'. Someone loan me a pellet gun and ill bring it to you dive..u can skin it. I hv a 3rd grade student on my bus that can tell u how to do it! Lol..then you can give it to blue, she can cook it up, and we'll hv lunch at springlake!

I had no idea Groundhogs were all that good for eating. I really thought they might be far down the list for wild game. I know that Pheasant, Rabbit and Squirrel used to be hunted and ate regularly. I have heard of people eating Raccoon, but again, did not think it was a preferred meat. Muskrat or Possum anyone? I have eaten opossum and muskrat. and neither is very tasty in my opinion............
