I see our esteemed Governor just signed into law a bill that could result in a fine for cigarette smokers that don't properly dispose of their butts.
What a friggin' joke! The state-county's-townships-municipalities can't/won't enforce the no smoking laws that are on the books right now let alone a law against tossing your cigarette butts around.
I know of at least 5 bars just in the city of Streator that openly allow smoking. That's just in Streator alone so you can bet there are any number of bars throughout the state that allow smoking with no fear of enforcement of the law whatsoever.
What is it with these half wit politicians, anyway. They must like to pass laws just to say they passed them. Never mind enforcing them.

What places in Streator that allow ILLEGAL Activity Boy SOMEONE CALL THE POLICE. Oh yeah they more than likely KNOW and do not GIVE A CRAP. Come on when a Barbershop on Park St for YEARS was SELLING BEER OUT OF HIS POP MACHINE and the POLICE ON DUTY WOULD COME IN AND GET ONE FOR FREE YOU AH HAVE A PROBLEM.

Also, with this new law, if you are caught littering a cigarette butt 3 times, it is a felony and 1-3 years in prison.

I wish they would enforce this! I've "Field Stripped" mine for years, kept them in the car, until home or near a garbage can. It's NOT that hard!!
Not to mention dangerous here, w/the droughts the last few years!

I agree with there being a fine for littering, but a felony and prison time ? That's insane. Some child molester's don't even get that. Their big thing was how many pounds of cigarette butts end up in the land fill each year. How many pounds do you think all the sh*t filled disposable diapers produce in those same landfills?

I agree Super. Enforce it with fines for littering, not a prison term.

I agree Super. Enforce it with fines for littering, not a prison term. We have the largest prison population in the world. Does everyone realize how EASY it is to be sentenced to a prison term in this country? I agree with the fines, but prison terms is just plain ridiculous.

I agree about felony and prison time & child molesters! We need some laws re-written , like pedo laws ...

If they would allow it inside businesses again they'd end up in ashtrays and garbage cans!

I hardly think so since I was at the credit union drive up window the other day and the outside the wall there looks like a garbage dump with butts all over. cars do have an ashtray and some people cant use them when available.

I'm always amazed by smokers who flick their ashes into their car ashtray but throw the butts out the window. Just look at the curbs when you get to a traffic light.

I heard it was $1500 if caught throwing out the window.

Our vehicle doesn't have an ashtray. It didn't come with one. I don't smoke though so no biggie. Prison is harsh. I think they should dress litterbugs in an orange jumper and sentence them to picking up trash. They can start in my yard with all of the trash we pick up daily from inconsiderate people. Can't stand litterbugs.

I agree prison for this is harsh. the state is broke so Quinn is scrambling to find ways to fine people to make money for the states coffers. your idea is the better one concerning this anonymous.
