I think the will say that they feel experience is best, but experience heading our City in which direction? Increasing crime and vacancies with decreasing population and property values? There were 1435 votes for going in our current direction and 2028 votes for change. They should honor the voice of the voters, IMO. This is where people get tired of you. I have zero problem with Brian getting the appointment. Your accusing or implying that the current or past council deliberately want the city to fail is ridiculous and borderline offensive. I don't believe in the idea that you have to have grown up here to lead, but most of the council has grown up, raised families, lived, and worked here. You are entitled to your opinion of the council's mistakes, but to say they deliberately want to destroy their own community is wrong. I wasn't and am not on the "run Kyle out of town" bandwagon. I am tired of your song and dance.

Think about the positive attributes of Streator and build upon them.
Have a goal, purpose and objective and get the job done.
There are many unemployed people in Streator who can volunteer their time to make Streator look as good as Ottawa.

I never said that anyone was deliberately destroying our community, just that I feel that the leadership we have has been heading our community in the wrong direction. Since people keep leaving and the vacancies keep rising, it looks to me like others agree.

I am really surprised there is not a procedure already in place for a council member to be replaced. (other than appointment by the other council members) I am not sure, but I think any procedure is dictated by the Illinois Constitution. There may be other procedures depending on different circumstances.

It is state law that the council appoints someone to fill a vacancy in a commissioner form of government. The appointed person holds the seat until the next scheduled election. The council actually could have appointed someone without soliciting names of people interested in the job.

How would that be against the law? why we the people vote for council people. why would we not vote this time since there is still 3 1/2 years to go? not right for them to put who they want.

There's less than 2 years on his term. Streator ordinance says appoint to fill a vacancy until the next election.

In the 2010 census, Streator lost 3.4% population while LaSalle County overall gained 2.2%. When I look at real estate brochures for the area, Streator is the only community that I see with property values about half that of the other comparable properties. If you are saying that it is Streator's economy that is a problem, I agree, but I hold our leadership accountable for that as well.

Just for sh!ts and giggles, lets say the city removed all zoning and sign ordinances and they assigned cops to every bar to eliminate fights. What else can the city do or provide that could actually create jobs?
