They are going to appoint someone to the position. Brian Crouch stopped by last night to let me know that he did apply. He was the next highest vote getter, so he should get the position, in my opinion. The council should honor the voice of the voters.
The question I have is, what if two council members want one person and two want another, who gets to decide?

The question I have is, what if two council members want one person and two want another, who gets to decide? That's what I heard, but I wasn't sure if it was true. Brian should get the position, due to the number of votes. Why did we vote, if they are just going to pick who best fits their needs? Brian would be excellent on the council. Fresh ideas.... maybe things would start turning around a bit.

The only reason I support choosing someone from the last election is because those people chose to put their names on the ballot and deal with all the BS that non candidates didn't face. I also believe in this case it should be the next highest vote getter because it was so close.

You could knock me over, with a feather, if that loser, of the last election, was not , appointed. A lot of, commas, but he is an as*kisser and a member,of the GOOD OLD BOYS CLUB. No respect, intended.

Let me clarify, I am referring to the former council member, loser in the last election, and a member of the GOBC.

Sorry but this council I feel will appoint the former councilman Williamson. Just the way it is up there.
I would be surprised if the city chooses brian crouch.

If they don't want to go by previous election results, then can't they have a special election to let the people decide? --" and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth." I guess Streator is on another planet.

Bill Phelan may not be one of the Good Ole Boys.
Let's hope they don't play games with our town.

best person to ask about this would be willy since he has had dealing with replacing a member that had passed. I do believe its up to the city council to decide what is best for the city.

I think the will say that they feel experience is best, but experience heading our City in which direction?
Increasing crime and vacancies with decreasing population and property values?
There were 1435 votes for going in our current direction and 2028 votes for change.
They should honor the voice of the voters, IMO.

Sometimes it is. When we fill vacancies on school board we ask for candidates. We choose who best fits what direction we are heading and who best has experience in that situation. Sometimes it's a total new person and other times an ex board member or employee.

And sometimes they don't last very long.
I see so many vacant homes near me, it looking like a small Detroit.

there is many empty homes in my neighborhood too longarm. I don't think things will change in Streator no matter who is on the city council.
