Remove Bad Foods From Daycares? Illinois officials are considering a series of proposals that would remove fatty and sugary snacks and chocolate milk from day care centers. Another would also ban the youngest children in day care from watching TV. And kids would be mandated to play outside twice a day as long as the weather is good. am1250wspl.com/pages/9033767.phpGov't taking away the kids freedom of choice to choose what they like to do. Excellent idea. Kids need to get up and move and taught at an early age about good and bad food. TV does not belong at daycare anyway. Unless it is educational programs.
Growing up in my household, we were not allowed to put on the TV until after dinner at 6pm for Truth or Consequences. Except on the weekends or days off of school

They need healthy foods! They also need to learn. Different things in diff. seasons, splitting time outside in fun games to get them active & staying physical. Outside doing something nature like gardening, Re-cycling etc ... Can you imagine the conversations?  |

There is nothing wrong with any of those things and I assume you aren't familiar with current day care settings because most licensed facilities do not allow TV's or junk food. We are dealing with an obesity epidemic with our youth as well as an addiction to screens (Tv, computer, phones etc). If parents cant lead the way with healthy food and meaningful learning interactions then I think the next best option is school.
As someone with a degree in early childhood education with a concentration in infant and toddler development, I would not serve junk food in my facility nor would I allow TV's. As for children being made to go outside, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. There will obviously be weather guidelines for this. They wont make students play outside in days where there is a heat advisory or freeze/frostbite concerns.
Children make poor choices when left to their own devices. Its the job of adults to make sure they are getting proper nutrition and engaging in learning activities.

Perhaps if not so many that had (bad) parent control) would change their ways, then the government wouldn't have to step in and tell them what to eat. (jmo) too many obese children out there.

I am in total agreement here with you all above, with the exception of CRAZYTOWNS opinion of. Sadly but true the majority of children today are overweight which is the onset of fast & junk foods, and sitting in front of computer games, and television. Hell we played outside from practically sunrise to sunset, and literally had to be MADE to come back in to even eat meals, or for the night to stay in. M |

AND TOSH... I will do one better yet, lol. WE had home cooked food in our cafeterias, and not CRAP sent in! Which for one isn't at ALL healthy for these children, nor ecologically friendly with all the styofoam WASTE that the schools do create. I don't know if you all did work the cafeteria shift in school at St. Mary's, but all of us girls in St. Anthony's took our turns working the lunch hour's there...cleaning trays, serving food and milk, scraping trays, and DISHES..........lol. YEAH.........like that would happen today, huh? M |

drank out of a garden hose, went to school when it was -25 too

Most of the food in District 44 is prepared daily by the kitchen staff at Northlawn. They start early to make and cook/bake the meals.

I finally found out why. They mixed honey into it, to make it go farther and it was sweeter. |

Illinois lawmakers are just plain stupid. I'd love to see how they balance their personal finances.
They continue to propose all of these laws when every day that goes by without pension reform this state goes further and further into debt. $15 million dollars a day.
I'd like to see a state lawmaker step up and propose a resolution that no more laws can be proposed until there is APPROVED PENSION REFORM!
Oh wait, let's pass a law that prohibits day care centers from doing this. Let's make another law for people who buy puppies that get sick after you take them home. Or, what about a law for getting a suntan in one of those tanning beds. All of those laws are so small when the overall picture of $15 million dollars a day is thrown into the equation.
Our school district cuts sports and closes a school and lays off teachers... districts all over the state are faced with the same financial constraints. Yet, the lawmakers in this state continue to do nothing about it. You wonder why this state is in such trouble and is laughed at? What a joke.
