Also..... (510 ILCS 85/) Poultry Inspection Act. , (410 ILCS 615/) Illinois Egg and Egg Products Act., (410 ILCS 605/) Animals Intended for Food Act. Those are IL statutes covering chickens. The chickens have to be out of the weather, they have to have a certain amount of space and the IL dept of Agriculture can check them out and seize and destroy birds....

If anyone else downtown had chickens, would this be an issue? I'm not defending Kyle by saying this. I can easily separate out the person from the situation. Many communities are adopting laws to allow chickens. I've given the example in another thread. Chicago IL allows chickens. Austin, Texas allows chickens, and the community is growing. They were again ranked as one of the best cities as far as job markets are concerned. This was due to increasing high-tech jobs from California and an increase in employment in government, construction, and education. It does not seem that chickens are preventing them from attracting companies. Are chickens a gateway animal into having goats, and pigs? Possibly, I think most reasonable people would agree that large farm animals should not be raised downtown. I can understand changing the ordinance to specifically call out that larger animals are not allowed. However, a couple of hens for fresh eggs probably doesn't hurt anyone, as long as they can not be seen from street level, do not interfere with other businesses, and are kept sanitarily. Has someone's business been hurt by the chickens? Is there proof of this happening? Also, will amending the ordinance allow for the petting zoo at farmers market week and fall fest? What about bovine bingo? Will the cow still be allowed? I would think that would be a shame to lose those events. Changing laws does not always work out for the best, so I am wondering how does this get worded? Yes, I would protest anyone in the downtown area that has chickens. Not sure if business' have been affected yet, but they will be affected. This is a business area, not a farm You think its okay to ban larger animals then...............a farm animal in downtown is a farm animal.......if he can have chickens, I can have pigs, I can have roosters. Petty zoos are different, not the same at all.

Funny you guys will stand up for being allowed to keep all kinds of violent animals.. Or put up all kinds of things to attract birds to your yards... Guy has a couple chickens no one has seen and we're going to run him out of town.. As for the bar fight videos and other complaining I thought Dog and others explained how he should address those problems quite well..

I do believe they will have to allow you to be grandfathered in, at least until such time as you no longer have Chickens. I would consult competent legal advice on the matter at least. I better run out and get me a cow and some pigs......I have till 8:30 am to et grandfathered in....... They are not currently legal, Chickens are not classified the same as pigs and cattle.

I don't care who has chickens and where they have them. What I am concerned about is what is done with the waste they produce. I just don't want to see the waste washed off the roof and down a drain spout onto the alley or roadway. Other than that, who cares.

I have been a vocal opponent of Kyle's problem resolution tactics, but I have to say that I dont have a problem with him having chickens on his roof. Like others have said, it is being allowed in bigger cities. Hopefully the city just clarifies the wording of the ordinance so it specifically states that chickens are allowed. Unfortunately, I think Kyle has made too many enemies that more people will show up to try to ban them, rather than to allow them.

They tabled it, and adjourned the meeting. Despite passing an ordinance recently that creates public forum at COW meetings, they did not allow me to speak. Why do they not honor free speech and follow our laws? Are they above the law? That is what I call corruption. Time that to get that attorney.

Do you own a business on main street in the downtown area - or do you have a house? I for one beleive they do not belong in the city

You mumbled your complaint as you walked out of the meeting, before the council tried to correct themselves. That was an honest oversight by the Mayor and council. Had you raised your hand before the adjournment, you would have been acknowledged I'm sure. You were out the door before they could correct themselves. Had you stuck around you'd have known that.

While it is okay to disagree with someone, where does the intense hatred come from? He wants what we do. Streator to be a better place to live. His methods may be maddening at times but he is passionate about it. Maybe it's that passion that we lifers have given up on. Oh, it's Streator. Not an excuse, we've just come to accept that things won't get done until a change is made. We've been broken by a lack of response from our leaders. I plan to keep putting my name on the ballot because I want to see better for us. And I'll keep running despite getting creamed in the election because I care. Cut the man some slack and get passionate about making Streator a better place to live.
