There is a special City Council meeting tomorrow morning at 8:30am to out-law chickens.
My chickens have not been a problem to anyone. Everyone in town should be able to have them.
I hope people can show up tomorrow or call City Hall today to support what is right.

They don't need another ordinance to ban chickens from the city. They already have one under live stock and farm animals being prohibited in city limits.
I see the person that got cited for having a rooster in the city has either the same one again or a different one. Cause I can hear it every morning at the crack of dawn. And I am probably about a half to 3/4 of a mile away from where it is at.

My opinion is that if you are allowed to have chickens at your "residence", and the apartment you reside in above your families business is indeed your residence, then we all should be allowed to have them. Whats good for the goose is good for the gander.
If there is indeed a meeting about this subject, I wouldn't say they are targeting you. It has never been an issue before, having chickens raised on a downtown rooftop. Much like someone having a gutted deer hanging from a child's swingset had never been an issue until the day it happened. Then it was an issue and had to be addressed. You are the first to raise chickens on a rooftop, but I'm pretty confident if I or anyone else was the first person to do that instead of it being you, it would still cause it to be addressed by the council.
What's the saying? It's not personal, it's business. That's a good line to remember. Don't make things personal when the city is conducting business. It's not personal, it's business.

I would hope citizens would come to the meeting because if people can't stand the smell of leaves or yard waste burning on a non burn how are people going to smell CHICKEN S##t! everyday!!!!! maybe they can have two chicken days a week. on those days they can be on the roof and on other days they are to remain in the house as a pet.

There is a special City Council meeting tomorrow morning at 8:30am to out-law chickens. This is only being done because I complain about the council not doing anything about the bar fights. My chickens have not been a problem to anyone. Everyone in town should be able to have them. Ordinances being created to go after individual residents because of a vendetta, I feel is an abuse of their power. I hope people can show up tomorrow or call City Hall today to support what is right. I hope that ban it on commercial property - it is not right

It states no farm animals in residential zones, nothing about commercial zones. Tractor Supply wouldn't be able to have chickens if it stated it was for commercial zones . I've know people that have had turkeys in their back yard. Course they only lived until Thanksgiving.

I do believe they will have to allow you to be grandfathered in, at least until such time as you no longer have Chickens. I would consult competent legal advice on the matter at least.

Chickens don't have any place w/in the city limits IMO. The neighborhoods of Streator where my family and friends live are quiet and peaceful. How much noise do you think someone who decides to start breeding and raising chickens will cause? Kyle wants to talk about wanting to clean up Streator, but yet half the time when I come home to visit, I have seen houses with junk cars, toys, garbage, etc. littering the front yards. How can people be expected to properly raise and house chickens on their personal property, when they don't take care of it as it is? Kyle, give one good reason as to how the downtown area would look better for any possible incoming business when they see a family living on a rooftop raising squabbling chickens? I would take the sounds of a 5-10 minute bar fight any night of the week over the sounds of chronic clucking.
Yet, now that he has been caught, he wants it to be made legal? Again all part of his "ME, ME, ME" whiny attitude.
