A number of years back there was a lot of publicity about the "New Industrial Park" on Livingston Road, I know Vactor expanded and used some of the land. But weren't the powers to be supposed to develop it, as in a road, sewers, electricity,etc...? It must be one of the few industrial parks in the country growing corn, or many beans this year...... I also thought with a city manager type of government we would be getting the expertise needed to get grant for a number of projects. Is it our choice in city managers or what, as it seems a couple of cities close by are always receiving grants.

We've heard at election times that what they have been doing is working just fine. I don't think there is much interest from our current city leadership to develop an economy here. The impression that I get is that they are happy with Streator being a retirement and bedroom community. They don't seem concerned in getting those jobs that families can support themselves on. The $300K spent on a band shell could have been used to have some roads ready for a business that may want to build there, or for other infrastructure improvements to entice possible businesses. The $300K "quality of life" improvement for a couple of events a month didn't get us much return towards developing an economy here.

As long as three members of the GOBRPC are on the council, his job is safe, because he is a member as well; they routinely pull each other's ropes.

From Today's Time - The council, at its monthly meeting, approved a $450,000 revolving loan grant for the construction of 3,500 feet of 24-inch storm sewer from the detention pond northeast of Vactor Manufacturing to allow for the expansion of Vactor and the future expansion of the industrial park in that area. The company expects to spend $477,000 to expand its facility and add 30 jobs over the next 24 months. City Manager Paul Nicholson said if the city were not to make the sewer improvements, Vactor would be forced to outsource the jobs outside of the city. I think this is a good investment in our future. I commended the council for their action on this at the meeting last night.

So explain how the City Council is not being business friendly with this move, as you have claimed in the very recent past.

I have not said that this move that they made just last night was not business friendly. It will take more than a business friendly move here and there to make a difference; it will take an overall attitude change, IMO.

Over all though, they lack a business friendly attitude.

The reason the City will BEND over for Vactor is so Simple Federal Signal the company that OWNS Vatcor could pull out of Streator in a Heartbeat offer the Employees Relocation Benefits and I bet 90% would take them in a second. Why do they stay in Streator called they have a city that WILL BEND OVER for them and if they ever said NO to them look out. I used to live on IL Street by Vactor and when Reading was forced to install that sewage System out there. Guess what line they hooked into the Main leading out to Vactor from the City of Streator. That's right Every house in a 2 Mile Radius had a line hooked up to that sewer via pumping stations.

Just curious ironeagle, I don't understand your thoughts or complaint about that sewer line. Reading township was forced into installing a sewer system and were not allowed to build their own plant. The City of Streator was told that we were going to treat their sewage. So yes, nearly all of Reading township is hooked up to our system. I say nearly because I don't think the trailer park has connected yet. The line that you were being specific to had 6-8 homes on the east side of Illinois that hooked up to it, choosing our system as being better than the one that Reading chose to build. Approximately 300 homes, through Reading's design had a direct hook-up to that line. The rest of their design is connected elsewhere. Reading was forced to build a sanitation system and we were forced to treat them. The EPA is a very powerful agency. The City of Streator found that out close to 25 years ago and we're not finished yet. Hope that helps to clear up any questions you may have.

Willy it was Also the City of Streator and their Take it or LEAVE IT POLICY on the Sewage Treatment Costs for Reading Township that Drove me OUT of TOWN. Why should the People of Reading Township have to pay for the City of Streator DEBTS they incurred for a Sewage Treatment Plant that IIRC was supposed to be BUILT with ENOUGH CAPACITY in the 90's to HANDLE READING TOWNSHIP when we approved the BOND ISSUE TO BUILD IT. Sorry I remember the Discussion in the 90's over that and we where told in the Papers and by the City that the New Plant could handle all Sewage and PROJECTED INCREASES that where expected for 30 Years. Meaning you LIED TO THE TOWN THEN. We Lost Jobs when Red Wing Foods had to pull out their Syrup line since the SEWER PLANT THAT YOU SAID WAS LARGE ENOUGH WHEN BUILT TURNED OUT TO BE UNDERSIZED.
Then there is the Costs you IMPOSED to the HOMEOWNERS of Reading Township. 20 Bucks a MONTH for a Service fee plus the Treatment Fees and then Reading Township hammered Home Owners out there with another 39 a Month in Fees. My NORMAL SEWER BILL had 60 Bucks a month BEFORE I EVEN FLUSHED A TOILET. Then we have the Police in this town that REFUSE to do crap about Crime in this TOWN.
