Why should people care? Because it gives other gay people a sense of accomplishment. It makes them feel less isolated and like their a part of history.
That would be like saying black people shouldnt care that MLK was black because it dosent really matter. To them it does because it is part of their history.

I want to know which famous people in history were overweight, balding, smokers. That way I feel a sense of accomplishment and less isolated. Just like I was a part of history too!!!

Don't you see this PC crap is started by white males to keep the whole segregation thing alive. You are all eating it up and applauding the spread of racisim. The whole point of the civil rights movement was for everyone to be equal to be seen as just people not a color or a sexuality or what ever but just as people.

Hell, I am a nurse and this is the first I even knew about FN being gay. lololololol I always thought she was a prostitute, as many nurses were, back in the old days. Why can't we all just be Americans?

Why cant we be who we are? Why do we all have to be just americans? Why cant people celebrate who they are and be accepted by others as equal human beings with unique characteristics? The truth is were not all the same, everyone is different. That doesnt mean anyone should be held above another. It means we all have something we can teach and share with others.

It will be interesting see what form this takes. Just joking: General Lee retired for the night on the eve before the second day of the battle of Gettysburg. His adjutant, Major Smith, asked the general if he could be of any further "service" and the general replied,"No, Major Smith...you know I'm straight, but see to it that your tent-mates are taken care of." California's goofy. But....it's their state, huh? Butterbean, Where did you get that quote? g

It does have quotation marks around the spoken dialogue. (Am I really typing this?)

So why the need to change the way History is taught? Is black history represented in California textbooks? Were the Native Americans treated fairly? Well, that one is an overwhelming no. How about Latino's? What about atheists? Since many gays, back in the day, were "in the closet", will there be investigations into which historical figures were gay? God forbid, they don't apply "gay" to someone who was. Or vice-versa.

Agree with this. What is important in history, has less to do with nationality, race, or sexual orentation, but should focus on merit and achievements. No person should be excluded - or included, solely because of some quota so to seem "fair." Kids k-12 have enough on their plate with the basics and we seem to be falling behind as it is. When the kids are in college they can focus their studies how they see fit. To IRB: MLK wasn't great because he was black - he was great because he was a great person. His accomplishments speak for themselves.
