To all those people who think downstate Illinois wouldn't be able to survive without Chicago. Guess what you're wrong and here's why. No bailing out Chicago on a yearly basis Chicago would have to house all their own criminals instead of shipping them downstate. However we might make arrangements to house them that is probably profitable for the new state. Also we can reform the pension system reform how we govern the state. Get rid of thousands of people in government since not one of the Chicago area employees would be in the new payroll. Also remember this Chicago has to get its power from downstate plants and dump it's trash in downstate landfills. So we charge them extra for that. Also, don't forget all the Chicago Welfare cases that get sent down here to live.............. That alone would transfer a good chunk of the expense back to where it came from...... |

Plus I bet the Chicago gangbangers wouldn't be so quick to shoot up a downstate town for the simple reason that those in the new state separate from Chicago would be armed and the state law would include capital offenses and would be used.
