Streator does not spend more than it takes in. The city has had a balanced budget for years. It's not the elementary school district.

Agreed alphadog, it doesn't seem that they have been able to provide adequate services for the current City limits and seem to be continually reducing services (such as no more police reports being available from our City). The Mayor said that we just can't afford better enforcement of our laws to control the negative impacts of the bars, to make homeowners feel more comfortable allowing business to be near them.
Did you notice that we haven't heard anything about the City's plans or the costs for the increased services required for additional residents, roads, area, etc? Considering that they can't seem to provide proper services now, shouldn't the increases require additional equipment and personnel? Will the increased tax revenue even be enough to cover the costs of the increased amount of services and be able to provide any real solution to the existing unaddressed problems in our entire community?
Since our City Manager seems to believe that our hospital closing will lower employer's health care costs to repatriate the jobs lost overseas over the last 25 years, why are they even worrying so much about trying to annex people who knowingly invested in being outside of City limits? Wouldn't his time be so much better spent trying to attract all of those new employers a little in advance? Obviously all of those jobs coming to the area will provide significantly more revenue than annexing some people who specifically wanted to not be subjected to our City's continually increasing taxes, decreasing services and overly restrictive ordinances. Unless of course it was just him spewing some of our City's BS, again.

The streets in the southeast side flood with raw sewage when it rains because the mines fill up and back up into roads and yards. How unhealthy and smelly that must be for days. According to most of the residents they agree it is welcome relief. It won't require to add any additional personnel. These residents are voluntarily annexing in.

Where on north Otter Creek does it flood? I know of the area at Sherman Park but am not aware of others. I think that those drains there are connected to the mine to drain into.

I live in South Streator, and I have all my life, and have a GRINDER system and I have a brand new septic system that was actually 2 years old when we were forced onto the grinder system, Oh yeah and after I paid $15k for new system, pool removal, fence installation, landscaping then I was told I need to be on this grinder system or it would basically be impossible for me to sell my home in the future without it.And no I did not get any or was offered any financial breaks, I was TOLD this has to be done.........
But I do get to use the wonderful roads and SHOP on the NORTH end of Streator first, and get to buy my fuel in TOWN. Yes Yes we out here in Podunk are the BASTARDS of the Good Ol Boy Streator System.

Sundown is on the west side of town. Sunwood is on the south east side. The area for annexation is in the Sunwood and Saratoga lane area.
