I don't go out much. But I do like the prime rib at the Pines and ANYTHING at the Starved Rock Lodge. Canal Port in Utica is great for their food. I used to like Buster's buffet, especailly when they had crab legs. Casa has very good food as does Chix. The Mi Mexicana Store will make you some great enchiladas if you are into Tex-Mex like me. Call ahead though. They also have very good tamales & ALL the avacadoes are ripe to perfection.

Yep, best chicken in town, at the time. Their and Ken's! My Dad loved Ken's. Boy, were they busy on the weekends. Had to wait in line to get in. The Lamp Liter had great fried chicken. They would sell you a whole dinner served "Family Style" i.e We delivered the food in large platers , just like at home, and folks would serve themselves. Very popular way of eating out there/then. I loved their spaghetti, (but I love spaghetti any time, any place.) They also served fried turtle on Fridays. THAT was very good! (Handy Foods on Main St in Ottawa will be selling FULL RACKS OF RIB for 10 bucks this Friday. Cooked on the spot.)

I have been reading this thread with interest. I ate many a meal at the bar of the old Trapps, and their beef sandwiches were great. However, there was a bowling alley just north of town that laid out some equally great beef sandwiches. Frankly, other than Streator, the only place I have had great beef sandwiches has been in Chicago, particularly Al's Beef on Taylor Street.
Fried chicken? Streator has to be the fried chicken capitol of the country. In the last ten years or so, I have eaten fried chicken in all of the places people have mentioned in this thread. In each case, I thought that I was eating the best that there is or was.
Pork tenderloins? I have never thought that they were that great, but I always make it over to Smitty's for one when I am in town. As most people on this forum know, pork tenderloins tend to be well known near route 80 through Iowa, Illinois and Indiana. When I was in high school, we had a wrestling match in Champaign. After the match, our coach took us to a root beer stand for dinner. When it came time for me to place my order, the following conversation occurred.
"Do you have tenderloins?"
"Don't get smart with me kid."
"I simply want to know if you have tenderloins."
At this point, our coach explained that tenderloins were a type of sandwich; and that I was not making some crude sexual comment.
At one of our recent class reunions, that coach made an appearance and I told the story above. After telling the story to the class, I asked the coach if he remembered the incident, he replied: "Remember it; I have told that story many times to many different people."
