Will someone Who is serious, and interested in keeping it open and making a mark on our community PLEASE buy it. Not Another money guy who thinks he can hire someone else to run it for him. Someone Local who has an interest in a historical theatre.

Being able to keep it open would require either someone witb money to keep putting into it or having enough people willing to come to our downtown to support it. The newspsper reported that our Mayor asked bar owners for a solution to the increasing problems, but it appears that they didn't have any, I don't think that enough people want to bring their familes around the negative activities that are allowed to go on. A dirt bike being raced around our downtown by someone who his buddy said drank a quart of Jagermeister and another motorcycle driver so drunk that he had a hard time figuring out how to start it and then swerved so bad that a bar employee ran to the corner (seemingly to see if anyone dies) are the latest viewings I've had of the problems that I am very afraid would not allow it to really be a success. If our City leaders would control what happens on our streets, maybe more people would be willing to support it so ithat t could last. Of course some on here will likely say that our community just will not support it and just don't care whether we have a theatre or not.

I've had the opportunity to talk to many people from Ottawa, LP, Ogelsby areas that came to town over the last week for a baseball tournament. I asked them if Streators reputation made them afraid to come here. All told me no. I asked them if Streators movie theater were to reopen would they consider coming here to see a movie. Most said no and the reason was that they either had theaters in their own town or there was one closer. A lot said they don't even bother going to the movies anymore because they can wait for it on video or Netflix and things like that. They said if it was a movie that they really wanted to see they may go but it would be in the town they live in.

It's a run down albatross. Keep it shuttered. It will be one less place for a maniac to empty a Bushmaster mag into an unsuspecting crowd.

Someone Local who has an interest in a historical theatre. Who would want to buy an old movie theatre and try to operate it in a small town where the theatre has failed, what, three different times over the past 7 years or so? If you had $300,000 would you by the majestic theatre? Then, after you buy it you're going to have to dump more money into renovations? And, after you spend all that money, nobody will support it. It's too bad, but Streator people have made their opinion known on the majestic by not supporting it.

That is a big investment beings today's age(the movie palaces) are being ruined by net flix, video stores and so on.

You would have to come up with something spectacular and they wouldn't be able to find anywhere else. Or at least far enough away that people would come here because it's closer.

You were the one who saud 5%, which I think is low. Our community should be able to support the unique movie palace in my opinion. Bob Endres, a successful theatre industry person, was quoted in the newspaper saying that it should be able to attract people from other communities. I think we should be able to expect that our laws will be enforced so that the increasing bar violence problems and other negative impacts do not have a chance to keep any people away. Our Mayor asked the bar owners for a solution (but seemingly didn't even require an answer). I think it is our leader's responsibility to provide the solution.

This is strictly my opinion. To start off I do not believe that it is not the responsibility of the city leader's to come up with a solution for a theatre. Only because it is cheaper in the long run to go to Family video, Red Boxes, Netflix, paperview, Ect. to rent a movie. Plus have the comfort of your own home to watch a movie with family and friend. Even considering gas prices, it's even cheaper to go to Earlville(drive inn) and watch two movies, compared to paying for one movie at a theatre. And the drive inn appears to have a good turn out compared to going to a theatre inside a building. My spouse and two my of teens, have gone to the drive inn twice already this year, and there has been a good turn out. And if you rent a movie, like from Family video, for a 24 hour period, at least, you would be able to watch it more than just one time in that 24 hour period, compared to the cost of getting into a theatre to watch a show one time.

WE did go to some movies at the Majestic and definitely enjoyed the experience. Loved watching from the balcony. But we only went once in awhile and if it was still open it would still be only once in awhile. That has NOTHING to do with bars , drunks and peeing in the alley. It has EVERYTHING to do with the cost to go frequently. I simply can not afford to go on a regular basis. We can't afford to go to Ottawa either. Obviously the theater itself needs to make the proper money as a business, I understand that but you have to have the clientele that can afford and want to support it on a regular basis. I am a working mom who rarely even goes to family video when for $11 a month we can watch a gazillion on Netflix.

We have all been focused on the Majestic and rightfully so. It's old and big and awesome. But.....the trend for profitability has been smaller multiple screen multi plexes. What's the status at the Northpoint Cinemas? It has sat and sat for years now too. It never was that nicely furnished and would require digital projectors as well. It's just sitting out there........for years now........ Its probably destroyed by now. But if not I think this is the better option...

This post hits a big reason why the majestic wasn't supported, Streator folks can't afford to support it consistently. Look at the school district and how many students are below poverty level. It's a very high number. I'd like to know what % of Streator ymca memberships are subsidized or paid in full by other means because they otherwise couldn't afford to be members. That would be a very telling number. I'll bet that if the streator ymca didn't have subsidized memberships that it would be closed right now. There might be a draw of, say 10 people a month who would come from out of town to enjoy the older style theatre experience, but there aren't enough of those people to help move the needle enough to keep it open. Bottom line is Streator people didn't support it. I don't see why anyone would take their money and invest it in a business that has failed about 3 times over the past 7 years. Who would?

I hope someone can take it over. It would be nice to see it open again. I did hear though that the screens were slashed. That of course is rumor, not fact. I hope that is all it is and that that is not true. The projectors are gone am I correct?
So if it is going up for auction, will there be leins on this property that will need to be paid? Just wondering, don't know how that all works.

Kyle took very little time going into his anti-Streator rant.....again. Where is the dead horse?
