Thats a shame, I never really looked at the Confederate flag as a sign of racism. Just a symbol of hillbillyism and redneckism to me.

I don't think many consider the confederate flag to be the symbol of racism. at nascar races there are plenty of them flags flying. maybe since the confederate flag represents having slaves then we should destroy sphinx and the Great Pyramid of Giza because they were built with slaves.

this tells you where the countries priorities are. Some f*ccccckkin flag takes precedence over so many other important issues.

I find it interesting that we are all in uproar over this mess, yet refuse to go after those who are actively enslaving people ( and worse ).
Question, how many Blacks were put in slavery by the White man?
Think about it.

How many will admit it is still being practiced, or what happened to the excess population that couldn't be sold? Reality can be messy.

The meaning of symbols, like flags vary from each area, by showing the beliefs, morals, norms, history etc. of the people that lived in those areas. Many are saying it wasn't about slavery, but in a round-about-way it was. Britian was putting pressure on the colonists & charging more for tarrif/trades. The 13 states didn't want the northern ones to make the rules & take slavery away because freeing slaves would make thier costs of cotton & sugar rise & less income for them. (Plantation owners exported their cotton & sugar to them) A majority of the southern blacks were afraid, they didn't know where they would go/work or how they would survive. The poor whites were afraid the freed slaves would replace them in the already low-income jobs. Quotes & the link from a post I saw about flags. The flag is also known as "the Stainless Banner" and was designed by William T. Thompson, a newspaper editor and writer based in Savannah, Georgia, with assistance from William Ross Postell, a Confederate blockade runner.[2][3][5][6][7][8] The nickname "stainless" referred to the pure white field which took up a large part of the flag's design, although W.T. Thompson, the flag's designer, referred to his design as "The White Man's Flag".[2][3][4][5][6][7][8] In referring to the white field that comprised a large part of the flag's design elements, Thompson stated that its color symbolized the "supremacy of the white man":[1] Second national flag (May 1, 1863 – March 4, 1865[17]), 2:1 ratio Second national flag, also used as the Confederate navy's ensign, 1.5:1 ratio "As a people we are fighting maintain the Heaven-ordained supremacy of the white man over the inferior or colored race; a white flag would thus be emblematical of our cause." —William T. Thompson (April 23, 1863), Daily Morning News In May 1863, when Thompson discovered that his design had been chosen by the Confederate Congress to become the Confederacy's next national flag, he was pleased. He praised his design as symbolizing the Confederacy's ideology and its cause of "a superior race", as well as for bearing little resemblance to the U.S. flag, which he called the "infamous banner of the Yankee vandals". Writing for Savannah's Daily Morning News, Thompson stated: "As a national emblem, it is significant of our higher cause, the cause of a superior race, and a higher civilization contending against ignorance, infidelity, and barbarism. Another merit in the new flag is, that it bears no resemblance to the now infamous banner of the Yankee vandals." —William T. Thompson (May 4, 1863), Daily Morning News[2][3][5][6][7][8] While it is Wikipedia, there are footnotes as to the sources. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flags_of_the_Confederate_States_of_America#Second_national_flag:_.22The_Stainless_Banner.22_.281863.E2.80.931865.29
