Have not heard much on how things are going with figuring out Illinois's budget. Has anyone else heard much?

I know this has already been posted. But I'm reposting again Only in Illinois.
Gov. Bruce Rauner signed House Bill 3311 on July 21, requiring the Department of Human Services to conduct a monthly crosscheck of its aid recipients with the death records kept by the Department of Public Health.
If the crosscheck yields a death record, the department will immediately cancel all public aid benefits to the recipient. To hedge against the hardship of a head of household passing away and a family being left without a safety net, the benefits will continue to flow if individuals in the “assistance unit” in question rely on the payments. The unit includes spouses and children.
Welfare dollars for the deceased have long been an object of scrutiny in Illinois. Millions have been spent on dead residents in the last few years.
Auditor General William Holland found the state had more than 8,200 people on the Medicaid rolls in 2013 who had been dead for more than 60 days. According to the audit, the state spent $12.3 million on 2,850 of those people. The following year the auditor general found nearly 6,000 people enrolled had died more than 60 days prior. Of those, the state spent $3.7 million on 1,111 people.
The law will also prevent Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits, commonly known as food stamps, from going to the dead. The same safeguard allowing for family members to collect the benefit will apply.
Illinois recently became home to the highest rate of food-stamp dependency in the Midwest. A law aimed at stopping the pay of benefits to the deceased may bring marginal changes to those numbers, but – as is the case with every component of the state’s dependency crisis – the only long-term solution is economic growth..

Number one, the public aids office has your social security number. Two, about every 6 months to every year, people that is on public aid has to call the office to report any changes in income status. I would think that if they did not hear from these people in that time period that they would drop giving.

Many years ago, after I married, I was slow getting my name changed on anything. When we file taxes, we got a letter stating....we have record of no such person ....here's your check. Lol
It was an eye opener, to how easily many continued to receive benefits for the deceased, or illegals, etc.

Anyone think that Rauner should be impeached? Do you feel the federal government should step up and stand their ground with Rauner?

Sorry but need to recall rauner. Illinois has the duty to protect the vulnerable "disabled ". he is not doing his duty. He is holding these people hostage to get what he wants and will not get it. mean time the disabled are not getting the help they need And are dying because of rauners actions

Leave him there for 4 years. Impeach him for being tough? It's about time someone stood up for everyone who doesn't live in Cook and Dupage counties.

Sorry rocket but I am one of those Disabled that is SUPPORTING Rauner. Why should we keep spending more than we take in. Why do people in IL need to pay through the nose in Property Taxes our Employers pay the HIGHEST Workman Comp Insurance Rates in the NATION. Why should our Democratic Overloads in Chicago be Afraid of People in Southern IL telling them NO MORE Gerrymandered Districts and no More Career Politicians. Madigan and his Cronies INCLUDING Mautino have been in office Long ENOUGH hell the Mautino Family has been in office over 60 YEARS in the IL Valley. Don't you think it is TIME for some NEW BLOOD in Springfield. Do not give me this crap there is the Ballot Box to vote them out. When they rig the Freaking Districts to PREVENT people from being able to DEFEAT THEM it makes it hard to get rid of them.

Really? If you have a good challenger it's not hard. Ask Jerry Long.

As much money that is funneled into secret projects, we could have more for the children and the challenged. It's just where the government wants to put it.

Illinois has entered its second month without a state budget. Senators face a tricky vote when they return to the Capitol on Tuesday — whether to reject a pay increase for themselves and violate the state Constitution, as the House already has done.

Rauner isn't messing around. Stick to your guns, Bruce! It's the reason you were voted into office.

Illinois lawmakers are considering a new plan to provide almost $5 billion in federal funds for social services during the state's budget stalemate. The measure would authorize spending $4.8 billion in federal dollars for programs that help domestic violence victims, low-income seniors and disabled people. The Senate also is expected to reconsider a plan to freeze property taxes for two years.
