The soccer team has had winning seasons, for several years, football seems to be the thing, in what most are interested. Too bad, the soccer team, does not get the recognition it deserves. Shoot, they were sharing their field w/ the band at one time.

Mr Bean, would you indulge my interest and tell me the true reason for entering ones sons and daughters into sporting events?

Statement from Kirk Melody released to WSPL this morning: ================================================== Bulldog Nation: I am so grateful for the opportunity I have had in coaching football at my alma mater for the last 22 years. I am also so tremendously thankful for the head coaching duties I have been able to fulfill these past 5 seasons. I believe that the cards were played right and that I incorporated the right schemes and philosophies that I have taken away from many great programs and coaches. I would like to apologize for not getting the “Wins” that this program deserves. I hope the program’s perception is still positive among the Bulldog faithful. To my beautiful wife Denice and my family, thank you! To my staff and your families, thank you for all that you have sacrificed and done for this program! To all the true boosters, thank you for your support! Most importantly, to the players; beyond the wins and losses, I hope your experience was good. I hope you have taken away many positives from this wonderful game. You have been a pleasure to work for! Bulldog Forever and Ever, Coach Kirk Melody

MM we could use Paint Bouncing Betty's that bounce up and throw out paint in a Circle say 2-3 feet in diameter from where they are planted. Any person that gets hit is out of the game for say 10-15 Mins. Also have them activate only at certain times in the game say the last 20 Mins of each half.

For some reason, i think it looks more skillful NOT being able to use your hands.

I know, I know, some people LOVE soccer, most of the entire WORLD out there LOVES soccer. We have an increasing population from other parts of the world (mostly Latin America) that is bringing more of a passion for Soccer here. That's OK, really it is. I KNOW it takes a lot of endurance to play. I also know a person with no arms could play and it would not hurt his/her ability in the least to compete. I could fix soccer for American tastes. Make the goal a little larger. (stimulate a little more scoring and increase interest in the game) Put 3 balls in play at once. (stimulate scoring and action relieving boredom from watching) (Hey I think putting 3 balls in play in basketball would be a hoot too) Have some form of 'tackle the guy with the ball' to have a little physical contact. Do SOMETHING with the arms and hands to demonstrate some skill level of the upper body. Do SOMETHING so that the game doesn't just end in a tie. Perhaps have them play OT in a mine field (sudden death?) OK...bad joke, Just Kidding....at least on this last one For many of us....despite years of launching Soccer here in America and decades of successful youth Soccer, even here in our own community, Soccer has still not broken out as a 'Major' professional sport in America. I DO remember when Pele came to finish his career in America. It was an effort to get America on board. OMFG, Yes, this would instill a little excitement........... Man, sometimes you kill me.... Oops, no really, don't kill me...........

I think that the team cost that coach his job. 6 unsportsmanlike conducts in one game and a couple in the next was shameful. Where are the parents of the kids that are getting these calls. The only thing you do when you show poor behavior in a game is hurt your team. If my grandson had gotten an unsportsmanlike call when he played he would have had to answer to dad. There is never an excuse for that. The freshman and sophomore teams had a good season. I hope they can bring it to the varsity level. Wishing Coach Melody all the best in the future. He really cares for the kids.

According to the paper, he will still be a teacher at his alma mater. Going 4-41 in 5 years as the head coach pretty much explains what happened. He seems like a real nice guy. I wish him and his family well and I hope he stays here to teach. I'll bet he is a good teacher.

I read somewhere that the bulldogs haven't had a winning season since 1980. Melody wouldve been 12. How many coaches have there been since then? Something tells me theres more to their record than this one coach thats headed them up for the past 5 years.

I love what the one ex player said. It was not about the scoreboard. Coach Melody has the respect of the kids, and in this day and age, that is rare. He is a good role model and I am so glad, he will still be a teacher. Our children need a dedicated man, like Melody. But it seems a winning football program, was more important, than lessons learned, on and off of the field.

Apparently , he is a piss poor coach. He should not quit his day job. Better yet, the board should drop all extra curricular activities, as soon as contracts permit. Forget about the new bleachers and lighting, and save the Taxpayets a lot of money.

His day job is teaching. And the kids respect him. Streator FB program had not been good for a long time. WAAAAAAAAYYYYYY before Coach Melody.
