There are a couple things I suggested in the past to allow both cars and crowd a better time. Do not allow fundraising and food tables on the sidewalks. Use the Fire Station lawn and Union Bank parking lot for those. This would keep congestion off the sidewalks reducing the need to walk in the street. It's cruise night not fundraising night. I would also like to see downtown businesses open at night. With that many people in town it would be a great way to have more people stop in and see what you have in your store. Another suggestion I have made is to allow alcohol on the street that night. But only in a commemorative cup purchased from different locations for $5-$10. Then that money from the sales could be put towards the cost of next years night. It could bring in at least $20,000. There are a lot of people walking and drinking anyway so why not profit from it. Police could check all other cups and either have violators buy one or write a ticket. All the fundraising I seen was situated inside of entrance ways to stores and not blocking the sidewalks, the only issue would be people standing in front of them and blocking pedestrian flow. Personally I don't see anything wrong with the fundraising, they are discreet and not pressuring people. I agree on downtown businesses open, but then again what is there to be open? I doubt anybody is going to look at furniture, jewelry or flooring or be shopping Ace on that night. Alcohol on the street is just a bad idea, if I had thousands invested in a car the last thing I would want is a bunch of half buzzed people spilling beer on it or in it. I feel if you allow alcohol on the streets you will see the number of nice entries decrease, car owners don't want the hazards that come with it. There was at least 4 bars open within the cruise walking area, and they all seemed to be doing a brisk business. There is another 4 or so less than a block from the area, plus the Eagles had their beer garden open, that should satisfy anybody looking to have a drink or two.

I have to agree w/NO drinking on the streets. While many would be responsible, more would not, not mention very few places to go to the bathroon either. I frequesnt a city that allows it in a 2 1/2 week celebration & believe me, things have changed over the years! It used to be, you'd wear clothes that could take a lil "Bump & Spill," but now drinks are tossed intentionally, in the air, over the crowds of peeps AND many are the popular RED drinks!

There's already alcohol on the streets being drank. It's not enforced to not drink. So why not make some money off of it and use it to pay for all that goes into making cruise night happen? Once again though it comes down to police enforcement.
