Like I said, we sold our parents house to a couple from Ottawa. They aren't worried. They like Streator.
Maybe the realtor was lazy and didn't want to drive to town. What was the realtors name? What company do they work for? Show some property listings where property here goes for half of what it does in other towns. Maybe the realtor should come and visit here to know its a good town. Maybe their boss should be made aware that this person isn't representing their Streator clients well.

Seems I recall someone on here awhile back posting news articles from a news media located in another state about Streator . Yet the local news media keeps it out of the public eyes. Maybe that is how Streator is getting a bad rep thru out of town media's.

He said that she told him that if she sold him one of the houses in Streator that are listed at nearly half the price of comparable properties in other nearby communities, that he would end up coming back and complaining to her for not stopping him. He said that she would not provide details, but that he just wouldn't like it here. Golly, a salesperson, working on COMMISSION, would NEVER steer a cash flush customer to something TWICE as expensive..........never would happen, nope. As for Canales, why would Chuck come back to Streator after he established himself up by Chicago? After Mary died, it was only a matter of time.

It is too bad that our reputation keeps some people and their money away. Yet it didn't deter you from moving across the country to become a resident here? Strange.

I had heard about the rough reputation prior to moving here, but was lied to and told that it was from decades ago, Al Capone days. I thought that Streator had progressed with the rest of society and violence would be unacceptable and have consequences. It wasn't until I actually moved here that I started to find out about the problems that do hurt business.

Why don't you just pack up and leave already - tired of all the complaining - that's all you do Kyle

Why don't you just pack up and leave already - tired of all the complaining - that's all you do Kyle If I were to pack up and leave, I would still own my building since nothing seems to sell for much here now. As long as I have an investment here, I will still be concerned about what goes on. You do realize that I can still complain no matter where I am, don't you? Did you see the fighting videos that I posted last July? I was in Florida when they happened and downloaded the video from a beach front condo patio. You pretend that you know what I do, obviously you have no clue, but I do more than just complain. I will stop complaining when our City starts doing things differently and we head in a better direction... ...or if I were to recoup my investment. How's that fund raising going? I'm surprised that I haven't had anyone come to me with a good offer yet. I bet job gave a "considerable" amount. I would think that most of the Council and the rest of the club would have already donated. From what I understand (yes, more weasel words) many of them are pretty well off. For example, in my neighborhood scrappers ride around on bikes pulling a cart, in dog's neighborhood they must drive around in cranes and lift trucks. Is that offer coming any time soon? Otherwise, you'll just have to listen to me complain until something terrible happens, like things change enough so that real estate starts to actually have some value. Some people really seem to like the direction that our community has continue to head for years and years though.

What would you do if you lost that job? You have proved that you can't run a business, and going back to your old trade repairing movie projectors is not an option. Projector repair men are akin to buggy whip makers; there is not much of a market anymore. Face it Kyle, this is as good as it gets: living above a jumped-up flea market and below a bunch of chickens. I hope you stick around. Every small town needs a character or two. In the fullness of time, you may make up to the level of Jay Nelson and Hoggy Greenwood.

Was Jay the 'Mayor of South Streator'? I think his last name was Wargo. I have only heard stories about the Gentleman. From the stories I heard he was quite a colorful character as well. I think he lived a bit South of the old Casey's and had a full sized wind turbine(the old farm windmill type) next to his large shed. It must be a different guy.

Jay Nelson was the guy who pulled his lawn mower around with his bicycle. He lived on the same street I did growing up. Jay Wargo was the "mayor" of south streator. Supposedly had invented a carb or something that allowed a car to get 100 mpg. Bragged he had a phd and you could ask him about anything except sex.

I wonder if, years from now, people will be having a discussion prefaced with, "[d]o you remember a guy named Kyle? He lived right on Main Street and had chickens in his building, and he was always trying to make people think that he knew something about the business world. Whatever happened to him?"

Your last post up there, by your own words mention that you took the time and effort to post about fights in Streator while you were at a beachfront property in Fla. No, I only downloaded and watched it in Florida, weeks later when in Streator, I posted it. The point was that getting me to leave doesn't really change anything; I could complain and post videos from where ever I am. What does that say? You don't really like the Beach? No, we enjoy the beach a lot, as well as being on the bay and gulf. There's some really good snorkeling there too. However, I also enjoy spending a little time on the patio overlooking the gulf, paying some attention to what is going on elsewhere. You are just deeply burdened to make Streator a better place so you sacrificed some of your prime time so you could keep up your campaign to 'make things better in Streator'? You have an axe to grind Kyle and it seems to take a pretty big priority in your life. I am not trying to call names or judge harshly, just encouraging you to do a little self reflection and see how large of a priority this is for you. I don't see it as a burden at all. However, it is a priority to me because I have invested a considerable amount here and know that we don't have to keep heading in the same direction we have been for years. Do you think Streator has been improving over the last several years? Do you think that to keep heading in the same direction is a good idea? I don't. Can you really stir the pot enough to effect the kind of change you want to see? Can you rally enough troops to your cause? I can't really take credit for any change, but I think we have seen some. In 2011, votes for change spread out over many challengers was not successful, but was an indicator that people want change. In 2013, another challenger ran a good campaign and voters did respond. If we don't get more change between now and through the next election, I sure don't want it to be because I didn't start early enough or try hard enough. I'll keep at it.
