Yup. Opened in 1961 or 62? They had the all Star Game in the L.A. Coliseum when they first moved to the coast.

Watching the Cubs game. They have a whale on their uniforms. Why?

Tribute to the Original team to play at Wrigley. They were the Chicago team from the short lived Federal League. (just a guess) Spot on MM! The Chicago Whalers of the Federal league 1st played/built Wrigley. They won the Fed League in 1915, before went bust. Uniforms actually had FEDS on them.

Ban Johnson warned that all the players that jumped to the Fed league would be banned from MLB at that time. Meanwhile he doubled salaries of the remaining player top players on the sly. Judge Kennesaw Mountain Landis, who was death on trusts, but LOVED baseball sat on the case until the FEDeral owners went broke. Then those salaries went back to where they were before. Later after the Black Sox scandal, he became the commis and helped keep baseball "lily white" until he left office in the mid 40's. America missed seeing some of the best ball players in the world because of Landis and the color of their skin. Shame.

ABA I saw this guy playing for the Oakland Oaks.(1969?) He was one of the NBA's top stars to defect to this new league. PLayed for the nearby Warriors, so he didn't have to move when he jumped leagues. Several of his boys played in the NBA, some just recently. This guy was amazing at the time. He could shoot and drive to the hoop. In the ABA, he was like a man playing w/ boys. WHO?

Once in the Stadium I saw Nate Thurmond hold Jerry Sloan with his arms behind him and Rick Barry punching him in the stomach. Barry would never have tried that one on one. Refs didn't even call a technical. A few minutes later Sloan argued a call and was kicked out. He walked out of the stadium whipping the bird and the place went nuts. That's when people could smoke in the joint and you could see the smoke all over. When Barry jumped leagues, he just tore the ABA up, he was just that good.

FOT & Willy, you are so right. I like the story you posted. Willy. Totally believable. I watched him play the ole Dallas Chaparrals (San Antonio Spurs ,now) They played before almost nobody at SMU's Moody Col. At half time, they just let anyone in. That would be me. Rick Barry was a first rate butt-head as a person , but the best all around BB player until MJ came into the scene.
