Are people really that forgetful? This has been talked about and been an issue for as long as I remember. It used to be discussed by Ted and Craft (can't remember her first name right now) on WIZZ. Before SU, SOL and Facebook. Every so many years, the topic of annexing south Streator, and the other surrounding areas. Priscilla! (sp) Yes, this has been going on for years. As for the wall, that is tRump's idea, too. Maybe Mexico, will pay for it.

It was very old, and retro looking. I'm refurbishing her kitchen, and wish the radio was still there. The conversations they had. Lol, the ones I remember most are from snow days, with school cancellations. I also remember the outrage of people calling in freaking out over the possibility that a prison might be built in town. People like to blame city council, but the citizens were very vocal about not wanting it.

Hi Helen, there's a company & I believe they are called Crosly & they manufacture retro radios, phones & record players & very likely other stuff. A little catalog/online concern- Country Door, has sold their stuff in past, you might find the radio in their stock, or one similar to it.

Is that right? Do you have some type of reputable source to confirm any of your claimed "many" suicides? From the History Channel website: There were rumors that the show caused suicides, but none were ever confirmedDo you think the government put him up to it as a form of population control? Maybe you shouldn't believe everything that you pick up from whatever conspiracy theory source you use... just saying. Your maturity level amazes me.......... Why, just because I don't believe it is right that as you and chavypower claim, our government allows the sale of poison on our streets to try to control our population? It seems to me that you amaze overly easy. We should take his lack of any type of response as a strong indication that he was just again spreading some BS, don't you agree? Annexation, no matter how long ago it was talked about on the radio should not be forced on anyone. Just because in all that time they haven't been able to show enough benefit to convince as many as they would have liked to join our City is no reason to even start talking about just forcing it down their throats or to start a public smear campaign that they are illegal sewage dumpers. That's just my opinion though.

The issue I have with the proposed annexations is when is the city going to consider ALL of its residents, instead of just the ones up north?...
Those of us who live on the south end or west side of town are limited in our options when it comes to the basics in life; No grocery stores, no banking, very few restaurants, etc...
Where I live is already part of the city, but I can understand the frustration of those who don't necessarily want to be annexed...

With one exception, no land may be annexed to an Illinois municipality unless a majority of the land owners and/ or electors in the territory to be annexed approve, either through petition or referendum. The exception covers unincorporated parcels of 60 acres or less that are completely surrounded by the parent city; these parcels may be annexed by municipal ordinance.

I can guarantee you this SOB won't give in without a fight though Roman..

Streator City Manager Scot Wrighton reports Monday that most sewer systems in a neighborhood southeast of town are not licensed by the county's health department. About 40 people attended a meeting on the issue.
Streator's proposal to annex a neighborhood southeast of town received a positive response from property owners at a meeting Monday.
"You have given an excellent presentation," one woman told City Manager Scot Wrighton during the meeting at City Hall.
Others agreed.
The city conducted the meeting to update residents on its proposal for annexation.
In his presentation, Wrighton reported only nine of the 59 households in the neighborhood have legal sewer systems — in other words, systems licensed by the La Salle County Health Department.
The city, he said, went door to door to find out how many households were illegally disposing wastewater into mine shafts.
Through interviews with residents or examination of systems, the city confirmed 26 of the 59 households were illegally disposing sewage into mine holes, Wrighton said.
"My instinct tells me that most of the others are going to mines," he said.
As of Monday afternoon, 14 households entered annexation agreements with the city, while four signed letters declining, Wrighton said.
In the presentation, Wrighton outlined a number of ways under state law in which the city could annex new areas. Many are voluntary methods, while one allows the city to mandate annexation of residents where a majority illegally dispose their wastewater.
Under the annexation agreements, the city must be successful in obtaining grants to pay for extending sewer lines before annexation were to happen. The deadline is three years.
The city believes it has a good shot in getting such money because the neighborhood in question is considered low- to moderate-income, Wrighton said.
"We haven't applied for grants yet because there hasn't been a decision to proceed," he said.
He said he expects the City Council to take up the issue of annexation at a meeting later this month.
Resident Connie Artman, who signed the annexation agreement, praised the city.
"For the first time in 40 years, there is something positive for our neighborhood," she told Wrighton. "I applaud you."
The city plans to hold another annexation meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Bruce Township Hall for residents in a neighborhood northwest of town.
During July meetings on annexation, many residents in the northwestern neighborhood resisted the idea of annexation, saying they were happy with the services of Bruce Township and the Grand Ridge Volunteer Fire Department.
Many residents in the southeastern neighborhood, however, have welcomed the idea of annexation because they're struggling with stormwater drainage. It is believed that separating their sanitary and storm sewers could help solve that problem.
That area of town has real problems. When it rains sewage backs up into the streets. Sounds like this is good for them. A win-win situation.

Who would have guessed that the city getting grants to pay for needed infrastructure could possibly be a good thing?

my question is when is the city going to fix the problems they already have in town? north otter creek floods every time we have a heavy rain because the drains have collapsed underground. the city cant afford to fix the properties that are already located in the city limits. the streets are full of potholes in various areas through out town. annexing more people is only solving one problem the city has. the city spends more then it takes in. we need to fix what the taxpayers are paying for now and not take on more problems down the road.
