A group of Streator Grade School employees plan to appeal the dismissal of the case they brought against the school board for cutting them down from full-time to part-time status. In February 2014, about 30 employees took action in La Salle County Circuit Court, saying the board violated Illinois School Code by reducing their hours and failing to recall them to full-time positions when full-time vacancies occurred. They wanted to be reinstated to full-time status and be given back pay. The reductions were made in 2013, when the board made budgetary cuts,
The board asked Circuit Judge Joseph P. Hettel to dismiss the case, which Hettel did Aug. 21, saying the board did not violate state code.
Earlier this month, the employees — through their Springfield attorney, Ralph Loewenstein — filed notice in court they are appealing Hettel's decision to the Third District Appellate Court in Ottawa.

If they should've been given full time positions, why didn't their union back them? It should've went through the union before a lawyer and court.

Just because there are full time vacancies doesn't mean the part time ones qualified for them

my understanding is the union is the one pushing this lawsuit against the school board not the employees.

If it was me, I would want my full time job back now that they can afford full time employees. Or was this a "purge" ?

Hours were reduced for custodians and aides to 29. Just a question.. Did that have anything to do with Obamacare?

I truly don't think obamacare had much to do with it seeing as the school district had financial problems before obamacare became law Jim. it could be contributing to the financial mess now seeing the state isn't paying its bills to the school districts.

Wasnt there something in the law about 30 hours being considered full time.. Thats what I was getting at just wasn't sure about it was all..

As Conservative as I am, you can't hang that one totally on them, over 75 percent of Americans the last I knew wanted nothing to do except be rid of Obamacare. While he and his minions were shoving it down our throats that number was in the high 60's. So even most Liberals hate it. Too bad they didn't vote the idiot out when they had the chance though.
