Thought the road was supposed to be closed and a DJ playing on the block. They must of changed plans from block party to a private party instead. I don't see a DJ playing or even hear any loud music or music at all. Thought when they said block party it meant on the street .

Block parties are often held in someone's back yard, in the neighborhood.

Just maybe if you conversed w/ your neighbors..be a tad more friendly than a skeptic.. and asked the hosts about the block party..you'd have your answer.

When I was a kid growing up on the north side. Of streator our neighborhood put on block parties which involved a live band a flatbed semi trailer as a band stage And road closed off to cars and people sitting on the street surrounding the trailer While people of all ages were dancing on the street. Even had a carnival food concession stand. This is the block party I am familiar with. I was looking for the DJ setting up out by the street with road closed people out on the street dancing. why close a street off if your gonna have the party in the backyard. Not what I expected for a block party

And unless city changed the way to close a street down, Back then no one had to go to every residents home to get it ok'ed To shut the street down. all they did was get a permit to close the street off for that Day and length of time to be closed. Then they went door to door and left flyer's on there doors telling them The street will be close on the date and time frame for block party.

We had a block party several years ago. My neighbor organized it, we signed a petition and the street was closed off for several hours one weekend afternoon. I ran my grill up front to the sidewalk and gave away hot dogs. Others played w/bean bags. No music.

They call it a block party for a reason, hence the word block, we had block party's in Ottawa, and yes with a permit we had the block sectioned off. A good way for people to know one another.

I think you would have to "love thy neighbor". With druggies in the neighborhood, not my cup if tea.
