Well the physical building is far larger than we need for market conditions. That would be a challenge. How do you utilize all that square footage if you don't have paying patients? It's a huge area to heat, cool and maintain. Would it be possible to convert a couple of floors into a 'nursing home' type care center? Do they still have the old cafeteria for food services? Does anyone still offer meals on wheels for the elderly around town? Somehow they would have to make it all useful again and start working on an economy of scale. Of course if they were to try to compete as a nursing home, it would be in direct competition with our 2 existing homes. Solve one problem and it may create another. Good idea. Stop the problem of competition by only having the ones that will get to eventually go home. And there is a meals on wheels.

There's a long waiting list ( a yr. & a 1/2 @ 1) Using the beds for re-hab, then home, would free-up the beds @ the NHs!

Nursing homes, rely heavily on those Medicare reimbursements, for the rehab! That is the reason, there are Medicare wings!

Turn it into a hotel/casino. Now we are talking some serious tax income & good paying jobs! But doing so will only create problems in the housing market, because that's the problem now dd, to much gambling and people loosing their Homes and cars.

There is already a thiving underground/legal gambling industry here. I doubt if things would change much .....except other people coming here from out of town & giving our economy a bump.

Wouldn't give the economy much of a bump. Big businesses get the tax breaks. Before long they'll need it for a homeless shelter.

Yep, what most don't understand is even with the "tax" breaks, the cost of doing business in this state is stupid.
In our case, roughly 40 percent higher than in a close state....... and that assumes worker pay stays the same.

I still say they should make it a shopping mall. Then people wouldn't have to go out of town as much. The smaller towns surrounding would come here too. Instead of draining the state's money, they would actually make some.

God I hope so. The difference between the 2 is staggering. I am actually in the process of switching over to OSF. The thing that surprised the Doctor I saw over there was that St. Fleeces owns every doctor here.
