Future mywebtimes article... Due to the overwhelming outcry against OSF, they have backed out of the agreement. Hshs will close the facility, and Streator will be without any medical care. All employees have been notified that the employment agreement with OSF has been terminated.

And yet not one word from either side explaining the feasibility of keeping a Hospital open for 3 patients. Amazing. HSHS killed the Hospital, make no mistake about it, but keeping the corpse around just invites the plague. I don't know if HSHS is all to blame. I think that it could be the combination of HSHS and the patients not trusting the Doctors.

All employees have been notified that the employment agreement with OSF has been terminated. I would think that OSF probably understands that the majority of the outcry is not against OSF, but against our hospital being closed. If OSF were to back out, it might have HSHS make a business decision regarding what happens instead of it being a religous decision.

A little outcry from the community isn't going to sway OSF. Please

But with having OSF both North of us and south of us, It would not make any sense for them to have one in Streator. OSF has Specialist, and no specialist in this town, to begin with. Having specialist is a big factor. When people have to drive to see a specialist, to begin with. And not trusting the doctors that are here is another factor for the hospital closing. Specialist are not wanting to come to Streator, for what ever the reasoning.

I think no matter which health care organization comes to Streator they will do what is better for their bottom line. what might be best for the town isn't always the best for the almighty dollar.

As Dr Celanoglu said at the meeting, the demise began 10 years ago when St Mary's started chopping jobs and not recruiting doctors. Mismanaged at the top. When good doctors either retired or left people had no choice but to go out of town for medical attention. More and more people had surgeries out of town. 11 of my 14 surgeries have been out of town. Only 6 of 9 since 2002. Why, because I went to specialist for my surgeries that I trusted more than Drs here. Add that in to state being behind on their payments and this is what we get.

That tells yeah right there. That even specialists doctors do not trust the doctors here, in this town. It is also true that people go out of town for their medical needs. The management at the hospital, obviously was well aware of that, also. And did not attempt to make changes for the better. Every thing adds up to why this hospital is closing. 1. Mismanagement of the adminstrators of the hospital. And them being very well aware of patients not trusting the doctors. 2. state not paying on a timely basis. 3. NO Specialist here in this town

A city council member had an affiliation with the hospital years ago. This person seems to be not mentioned as a party to the failure. A spouse of the member also drew a paycheck there. The city is also enduring this person's handy work & is not financially solid. Coincidence?

Are you stating all the Dr.'s in Streator are not to be trusted ? We do have some very knowledgeable and respected physicians in this town, regardless of what you think. It seems more people run to different Dr.'s to get told what they want to hear instead of what a competent Dr.'s diagnosis is. A patient has to be referred to a specialist in most cases, and only if the primary physician sees a need. If the primary physician does not see the need they are not going to refer them. Bad upper management decisions were a big factor in killing the hospital, and the fact that Streator is a welfare town didn't help. Do you have any idea what percentage of patients of Streator Dr.'s have their bills payed by either Medicaid or Medicare ? I can assure you it is well over 50% for many Streator Dr.'s, and in the 70% + range for some. Just because a Dr. is honest and won't sign off on a patient so they can collect SSID does not give reason not to trust them.

I am very well aware of the percentage of medicare and Medicaid people in this town. These doctors are getting paid on national average from the medicare/Medicaid people. I am also very well aware on those people that are considered homeless(whether the live in a hotel or homeless shelter). And as far as referring to specialist, depends upon the type insurance that people have as far as referrals are concerned. An it is not always the case as far as letting your primary decide if you need a specialist or not. I am a diabetic. And if it wasn't for me getting MY OWN Diabetic doctor, a few years back, I would be on dialysis, or dead by now. And the kidney doctor that I go to, also said the thing(if I did not take my own health serious, I would be in worse shape than what I am in). But that is just my experience. I think that Dr. Wargo and Dr. Celeboulo(sp) are very good doctors. Dr. Ricca is also a good doctor but I think he maybe retired. The nurse practintioners that this town has, I don't trust. The emergency room doctors, I don't trust. And by the way I am on SSDI, and have been for over two years. It's also not the doctor signing off of SSDI, it is the state determines, whether a person fits the requirements for SSDI. And as far as SSDI, the laws have made it, even harder for people to get SSDI.

I see Joanie Luckey a FNP and totally trust her with my life .
I think Dr Ricca went to part time and is getting ready to retire.

When he retires she was told she would have to reapply with one of the other Dr's there. She isn't automatically accepted

My doctor was Tieman and when she left that clinic wouldn't take me. I've had 4 doctors since and now my doctor in Ralwani. That clinic took her and now I guess I'mm back at the clinic.
