Disgusting to say the least... But as Greek says morals should be taught at home.. Then you go to public school to be reprogrammed..

Sorry. There are too many very young girls who are sexually active, and do not let their parents in on that piece of news. I would rather they have the opportunity to prevent pregnancy, than find themselves 13,14 and a teen mom.
I wonder how many of the outraged parents are mostly outraged because having a non childbearing teen cuts back on their household entitlements?
A parent who has an open dialog with their teens doesn't have much to worry about. Birth control pills are only as evocative *effective* as the person taking it makes it. Missing doses, being on an antibiotic, renders them unreliable.
Abstinence might be preferred, but if they choose to be sexually active, they should have the ability to be protected.
As far as sugary treats, that's something that can easily be monitored. Why would you want your kid offered all that crap, and not a healthy diet? You can feed them crap at home if you'd like.
Edited for stupid auto correct!

IUD's don't prevent diseases. If you get a disease while having an IUD, you can be messed up for life. Since they have issues with condoms, which can help prevent diseases, why offer IUD's? Population control. Messed up for life and they'll never be able to procreate.

What's next, the State sterilizing kids without parental consent?
Sorry, you wouldn't want to try that with my kid......... On one hand they bemoan no parental involvement, then they ignore basic parental rights......

The whole thing is that there are pros and cons to homeschooling too. Pros: move at their own speed, don't have to deal with disruptive classmates, and more. Cons: costs a lot, no scholarships for college, miss out on social interactions, and more.

I homeschooled long ago. My friends (the father a college educator) home schooled. Friends with chikdren much younger than mine, homeschooled . In each case, multiple scholarships & fellowships were offered to our chikdren. All have basic degrees, one has begun work (youngest one) on a masters program, one completed a masters program & was offered employment before graduating. My own child completed a PhD program and was offered a very good position before graduating.
One of the remarks that have continually been made about our child is the ability to work with other people, comfortably. And the ability to encourage and offer leadership to fellow workers.
Children learn socialization within the family unit. A public school is not, necessarily, the answer to a successful future for chilren.

Excellent. I was just meaning that there are some homeschooled children who don't know how to interact with others. Being sheltered from reality. Not all mind you. I also know someone who finished three years of highschool in four months to graduate two years early. He was able to move at his own pace.

I understand that what passes for homeschooling in many homes in Illinois is a joke. It takes time, commitment, and knowhow...the "blind leading the blind" doesn't work.

That is why you must find a good curricular program. And follow it. I, know many homeschoolers and they do not follow the programs, they are to follow. And their children are terrible at social events! Not all, but many of them!

Evidently my experiences with home schooled children is very different from what you all have known. The parents that I know, who are presently home schooling, are bright, devoted parents. Their children are equally capable, well behaved and interesting people. Some are sibling groups and in one family there's only one child. And he's a lovely person.

I think how a child is raised has more to do with their ability to socialize, than if they are home schooled or not.
I am aware of a girl that was home schooled that turned out to be a train wreck. She is basically uneducated. Although, I doubt the outcome would've been any different had she attended school.

If a child doesn't get a diploma in the end, then they weren't schooled. I had a friend whose child was having problems in school and pulled him out to homeschool. She did it for only a year because she realized the curriculum was years behind of a public school. Online homeschool gives you more options because you don't have to stay with your state's curriculum.
