I have been by this place. It was leased to Jefferson Davis after the Civil War was over and he wanted a place to write his memoirs. A very rich widow leased it to him & then gave it to him, plus seveal plantations when she died. Mrs. Davis did not stay there until the rich widow died. (She stayed in Europe w/ her daughter.)

Mississippi still has the battle flag on its official state flag. I think they may be in line for a change.

I see kid rock refuses to quit displaying the confederate flag at his concerts. I bet Jessie Jackson and al Sharpton will not be picketing his concerts anytime soon or trying to extort money out of him.

Kid Rock has the right to fly any flag he wants to. But no one can burn the U.S. Flag. That is against the law.

Kid Rock has the right to fly any flag he wants to. But no one can burn the U.S. Flag. That is against the law. I do believe the Supreme Court says otherwise. Pesky First Amendment anyways. Now, you want to burn it, someone might just step up and beat the hell out of you............ The same as they would for some asshat burning the stars and bars.

You are so right Sniper. Here is the info I looked up. That Texas case took place where I used to work. "The United States Supreme Court in Texas v. Johnson, 491 U.S. 397 (1989), and reaffirmed in U.S. v. Eichman, 496 U.S. 310 (1990), has ruled that due to the First Amendment to the United States Constitution, it is unconstitutional for a government (whether federal, state, or municipality) to prohibit the desecration of a flag, due to its status as "symbolic speech" Some folks are trying to amend the consitution to make it illegal.

The little black stable boy yard ornament used to be a pretty common sight in Big D. But over the years, they slowly went away. A person would be hard pressed to find one these days.

I have seen some that were painted so they look like white jockeys. It's original function was a place to tie your horsey.

Now that the clear-thinking people have realized that Stone Mountain must be changed to eliminate images of those horrible people now honored there, it is time to really push another issue. Specifically, Hamilton's image has to be removed from the ten dollar bill. It is time to put Harriet Tubman's puss on those bills. I know that a large number of people studied American History in school and thought that old Alex was important. Oh, I know the usual drivel about him: good fighter during the Revolutionary War and created a sound financial system for the country. However, he was a troubling voice at the Constitutional Convention. He even suggested a long-range problem for the Republic. Why that idiot even suggested that there were far more lazy people than hard-working people, and that the slugs might use the ballot box to take money away from productive people.
We need Harriet's picture on the bill. She did so much for the country. She be good on the bill.
